What do you think of when you think of Valentine’s Day? A romantic getaway? A dozen long-stemmed roses in her favorite color? Jewelry, you know diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
What about the everyday love. Day in and day out you and your significant other forge a bond together. Through hard times, no one escapes these. Great times, there are always a number of these. And regular comfortable times when it’s enough to watch a football game, enjoy a movie and popcorn with your best friend and soul mate.
Sometimes I wonder if all the hype on Valentine’s day wouldn’t best be served with a moment of reflection on that person that makes you happy and what special thing would return the favor. Don’t get me wrong, candy, cards and flowers are nice, but when they are all gone, that special moment you created will last forever.
Keep reading for a chance at my giveaway.
A few fun Valentine’s Day Facts.
15% of U.S. women send themselves flowers on Valentine’s Day.
73% of people who buy flowers for Valentine’s Day are men, while only 27 percent are women.
Did you know that approximately one billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year. That’s the largest seasonal card-sending occasion of the year, next to Christmas.
About 3% of pet owners will give Valentine’s Day gifts to their pets. Ok, I admit that I’m one of those people. But your pet’s unconditional love everyday of the year is worth it. Don’t you think?
Cupid, another symbol of Valentines Day, became associated with it because he was the son of Venus, the Roman god of love and beauty. Cupid often appears on Valentine cards holding a bow and arrows because he is believed to use magical arrows to inspire feelings of love.
In Wales, wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts on February 14th. Hearts, keys and keyholes are favorite decorations on the spoons. The decoration meant, “You unlock my heart!”
Only the U.S., Canada, Mexico, France, Australia and the U.K. celebrate Valentine’s Day.

I like the Welsh wooden love spoon idea. I’m part Welsh, and this summer I’ll finally be visiting there. I wonder if I’ll see any wooden love spoons there. LOL.
Wow, what fun! You’ll have to let me know if you find some wooden love spoons. Thanks so much for stopping by Kitsy!
It may sound crazy, but my husband and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day. We just love to be together, on any day of the year. Love the mention of the Welsh love spoons. My parents bought one when we traveled to Wales together.
Thanks for popping by Judith. I hear that alot from couples, the commercialization of Valentine’s Day spoils it for some. Wow, I thought the Welsh love spoons were neat, do you have a picture of the ones your parents bought? Maybe someday I’ll get to Wales and get the spoons for myself. Have a wonderful week.
Love the post and all the great facts about Valentine’s Day! And yes- my fur-baby gets a gift for this special day too 🙂 Congrats on another upcoming release!

Thanks for hopping by Karen. Glad you enjoyed the Valentine trivia
Well sometimes I can’t help but think Valentine’s Day is too commercialized…but then last night I saw a lovely young man bring a balloon, a bouquet of flowers and a mug of chocolates to leave on his girlfriend’s desk. She’d already left for the day so this was just so she’d see the gifties first thing this morning. So really! I couldn’t help but think…Awwww that is the sweetest thing.
Thanks for stopping by DeeDee. I share your feeling when I see all the merchandise in the stores, but still some people create their own special Valentines. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day.
Thanks for stopping by Kayden! How is your year going so far?
