What makes you laugh out loud? Wile E Coyote. I can’t watch an entire Road Runner cartoon without at least one out loud laugh.
What secret do you use to blast through writer’s block? Do something else creative. Spin fiber, knit, crochet, play the piano, build buildings for the model railroad layout, start a different story.
How long have you been writing? I have been writing since I was nine years old—decades! Only just now getting published.
Did you tell friends and family that you were writing a book? Or did it take a while to come out and tell friends and family you were a writer? My family and friends knew I was writing and I set up my blog site www.spinningromance.com specifically to keep them in the loop on my writing adventure, as well as to share my observations of the world around me. Everyone has been helpful and encouraging on this journey. I am blessed.

Why is the Bassett baying? Mikal Benson hurried across the yard and pushed her neighbor’s unlocked back door open. It groaned loudly. The still howling dog rumbled into the kitchen – as quickly as his short legs would allow.
“What’s wrong Rhett? Polly, where are you?” she called as she crossed the worn linoleum-covered kitchen floor. “It’s me, Mikal.”
The dog loped into the front entryway. She followed. What happened? Was the purple-flowered heap with legs and arms akimbo Polly? Blood pooled beneath her head . The body was lying in front of the door. Was she still alive? Mikal knelt beside her neighbor’s crumpled body. She gently picked up her arm and felt for a pulse. It was faint. Polly took a ragged breath and moaned. Mikal pulled her cell phone out and called 911.
A blood stain circled Polly’s head like a dark, expanding halo – blotting out the muted colors of the antique rug and spreading into the cracks in the parquet floor. Something had to be done.

Kim Ligon has been writing stories for most of her life—some on paper and some only in her head. She has lots of source material growing up as the oldest child in a large family in a small town in Wisconsin. Her father was a veterinarian so there were not only lots of children around, but all manner of house pets and farm animals too. Her love of reading comes from her mother who was seldom seen sitting down without a book in her hand. After a demanding career in healthcare information technology, she is now getting to do all the creative things she loves which includes writing her stories to share with you. It never crossed her mind he’d be so good looking and oozing with sex appeal. She’d pictured an older, average looking man, not the person who stood in front of her. Where has he been hiding? Krista zeroed in on his wide shoulders and the girth of his chest. It was as if the sky broke open and delivered her dream man in a pretty package. She nearly forgot why she came in the first place. Krista tried to focus and remain professional. She stood and fumbled with the strap on her purse. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Winter.” His deep and welcoming tone helped calm the tension that traveled through her body. He reached out and shook hand, his touch gentle, and a powerful, magnetic surge hit her hard, zipping all the way down to her feet. “Please, make yourself comfortable,” he said in a pleasant, yet authoritative manner, and pointed to a beautifully carved chair with a burgundy upholstered seat. With a confident stride, he made his way behind the massive desk and sat. He caught her gaze and smiled. Her heart thumped as she followed his lead. Settled in front of him, Krista cleared her throat and bit the side of her lip. Grandma Angie had taught her how to tell if a man was attracted to her. Late night chats about how she met her grandfather and words of wisdom from a loving relationship stayed in her memory, and she kept that advice close to her heart. There was no denying her attraction to the handsome lawyer, and it was strong. Fear of failure had ruled Krista’s heart since the breakup.

Inside the house, a shadow passed by the huge bay window. She held her breath. Am I really going to go through with this?
Walking up the steps to the house, she paused. Why would he leave such an expensive car sitting out when he had a four-car garage? She was stalling. Straightening her shoulder’s she used the brass doorknocker. There was no answer. She knocked again.
The heavy oak door creaked open. Tristian stood shirtless, his abs rippled as he raised one muscular arm to lean on the doorframe. The skintight blue jeans hung low on his hips and his hair tousled as if he’d not been awake long.
When he stared at her, with those huge blue-gray eyes, tingles careened up her spine. She covered her mouth in case drool pooled in the corners her mouth. He was one sexy male. She sucked in a breath and opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out. A brow arched, he peered questioningly at her then twisted to glance backward into the house. The sunlight streaming through the doorway accentuated several scars across his chest, rib area and a healed slash across his back. Who gets those kinds of battle scars and lives to tell the tale? Not going to ask. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all.
The corner of his mouth curved up in an inviting sexy-as-hell grin. “Good morning, Hannah. What a surprise.”

“What the hell are you doing here, and what have you done to my dog,” Pepper shouted flinging the log to the ground and yanking her cell phone out of her pocket, tapping in 9-1-1, she left the line open.
She circled her arm above her head and the wind picked up, spreading her fingers wide the rain came down in sheets, lightning streaked through the night sky and thunder shook the ground. The dog glanced up at Pepper, blood clouding its eye, barked once and barreled into the woods. Mr. Green started to get up off the ground and Pepper shoved her foot on top his chest. “Don’t move. Or I’ll…”
“You’ll what?” Mr. Green rolled to the side, and grabbed Pepper’s leg. Slick due to the rain, he couldn’t hold on and Pepper kicked his side and jumped out of reach.
She sliced her arm through the air, unseen forces slammed Mr. Green to the ground, his eyes glowed an eerie green. Pain erupted in Pepper’s head, he was drawing on her magic. Suddenly, a rainbow shower of knife-sharp feathers flew out of the cabin door, across the air, slicing through the man’s clothes pinning him to the ground until red and blue flashing lights reflected against the cabin’s wet exterior. The sirens’ wail echoed all around her, Kaylee’s scream broke though the chaos, then everything went black.
Lathen slammed on the brakes as he turned into the driveway behind the police vehicle. A rainbow of feathers rose from the ground and streaked into the cabin. He rubbed his eyes, shook his head and jumped to the ground searching for Pepper. The call came in at the police station as he’d finished the wiring and was testing the computers. A 9-1-1 call, no one at the other end and an open line from the McKay place. When he arrived, she was lying on the ground and Kaylee circling above her screeching. As he knelt over her, she bolted upright.
