Funniest Things That Have Happened To Me! #L&SR’s Weekly Blogging Challenge

Happy Holidays! Welcome to #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge November 18, 2020, Funniest things that have happened to me.  I puzzled on this one until my puzzler was sore, again! (Dr. Seuss)  Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cauldron. Take your choice of a Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle, or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate.

Not sure if 2020 has sucked all the fun and good out of my world, or what, but I couldn’t think of a single funny thing that has happened to me.  No don’t get me wrong, I’m not a mundane person, but … So I’ll tell you about funny things that happened to people and animals around me. Maybe I was the catalyst. Who knows. You be the judge.

First funniest things happened to our black and white cat, Aspen. I dropped a marshmallow on the floor, when I bent to pick it up, Aspen beat me to it. FIrst it stuck to her nose, then she batted with her paw, yep you guessed it, the marshmallow stuck to her paw, then she shook and flipped her paw, the marshmallow when flying and stuck to her tail. By this time I was laughing so hard my sides hurt. Finally, I took pity on her and took the sticky white ball off her. The she gave me the “eat shit and die look” as if it was all my fault she stole the marshmallow that fell on the floor.  Aspen stalked into the other room and ignored me the rest of the day.

Shortly after I was married, we took a trip to Disneyland and Universal Studios. We took my mom because she’d never been to either amusement park. Walking through Universal Studios back then was a blast. What made it more entertaining was the character dressed like Frankenstein, took a liking to my mom. This monster, well over seven feet tall, followed her all over amid her screams and trying to shoo him away. It was hilarious as a crowd gathered to watch the antics. My mom failed to find the humor in it, which made it all the funnier.

We get hellacious winds in Colorado. Sixty to eighty mph is not unusual.  Our puppy was about eight to ten weeks old and we’d let her outside to do her business. Yes, we were watching her. You have to understand this puppy, Mystic, always bounced and pounced rather than walk or run. Apparently, she bounced at the wrong time and the wind picked her up and send her tumbling end over end across the backyard. She looked like a furry ball rolling across the yard. Of course we rushed to her aid. Ater we made sure she was all right, we succumbed to gales of laughter. She wasn’t bothered at all. The minute we put her back on the ground, she shook herself off and started to chase leaves again. At that point, we  picked her up and went in the house.

We were driving in YellowStone National Park, when this guy on a motorcycle ahead of us slammed his kickstand down, leaned the bike over and ran up the hill. We wondered that the heck. Then we saw, what the heck. A huge buffalo with twigs and pine boughs stuck in his horns was storming down the road swinging his head from side to side bellowing. Traffic was backed up behind him and we were on the other side of the road. He walked right up to the side of our van and looked in the window. We held our breath. We were holding our dogs mouth shut so she wouldn’t draw the bufflow’s attention.   He finally passed on by, but I could just see us having to call the insurance company and tell them our brand new mini van had been gored by a buffalo in Yellowstone.  Now it’s funny, then we were scared to death the buffalo was going to gore our van. Not a very good picture as the massive animal approached, but we were scared the clicking noise from the camera would attract his attention. You can see our side mirror in the lower right hand corner.

Movies that Were Better than the Books #L&SR’s Blogging Challenge,

First before we get into L&SR’s blog challenge, I want to thank all the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces for their service! Their dedication and sacrifice keeps our great nation free. Happy Veterans Day!

Welcome to #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge November 11, 2020, Movies that were better than the books.  I puzzled on this one until my puzzler was sore! (Dr. Seuss)  Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cauldron. Take your choice of a bat wing Chocolate Chip or Pumpkin, or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate.

Since most the movies I’ve seen after reading the book were a disappointment. I could only come up with one movie that was better than the book. Practical Magic. The book was much darker than the movie which I have enjoyed year after year at Halloween and other times.

Since its Veterans Day I have to list American Sniper (Was the movie better than the book, probably not, but…) a 2014 American biographical war drama film directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Jason Hall. It is loosely based on the memoir American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History (2012) by Chris Kyle, with Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice.American Sniper by Christopher Kyle with Scott McEwen and Jim Defelice –  The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History is an autobiography by United States Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, With 255 kills, 160 of them officially confirmed by the Pentagon, Kyle is the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history. The memoir has sold over 1.2 million copies across all formats.  Why read it? Or watch it?  Freedom is not free.

There you have it the movies that were better than the books! What movies do you consider better than the books? Please post it in the comments!

March came in like a lamb, but a few days later a frigid wind gripped the northeast region of the United States with a vengeance. Gwen covered the box with her tiny treasures inside and shoved open the vehicle door. When the SUV’s door slammed against her legs, she yelped but continued to tightly hold the cover in place over the box.  I’ll have bruises tomorrow. Once inside Brock’s vet office, she glanced at the empty receptionist area. “Anybody here?” No one answered, so she eased into a seat and waited anxiously with a cardboard box on her lap. Weak scratching came from the box. Carefully lifting the cover, she peeked inside to make sure the little creatures were safe.

When the front door banged open of the veterinary clinic, she jumped. A cold breeze swept through the waiting room ahead of Delta, the receptionist, who rushed in throwing her arms up in an exasperated gesture. “Sorry, I’m late. Traffic.”  She frowned while rounding the reception desk and glanced down at the appointment book, then back up to Gwen. “I don’t have you on my schedule today.” Leaning over the counter, the receptionist pointed to the box. “What’s in there?”

Gwen’s face flushed in anger. “Someone dumped these poor innocent turtles or more accurately Desert Tortoises by the side of the road. They can’t be much more than a few weeks old. Even the spring temps are close to freezing at night. Poor little things were cold, dehydrated, defenseless, and malnourished.” She glanced at the receptionist. Dr. Brock Scutter is expecting me, I spoke to him late last night

#L&SR’s Wednesday Blogging Challenge, Favorite Songs or Musicians.

Happy Holidays and welcome to #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge November 4, 2020, Favorite Songs or Musicians.  What fun! Love music! Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cauldron. Take your choice of a bat wing Chocolate Chip or Pumpkin, or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate.

Favorite Songs or Musicians.

Let me preface my comments first by saying I worked as  DJ for a popular radio station in Colorado for nearly two years.  Not much money in it unless you go to the east or west coast, but it was fun for awhile.  My music tastes are eclectic, but for this blog I’ll narrow it down  from hundreds to two musicians/bands and their songs. One more thing, the musician must be an extraordinary entertainer as well.  But that’s just me.

Songs & Musicians:

Bonjovi  – Living On A Prayer or  unplugged version of Hallelujah   Okay I’m going to be honest, just about anything from BonJovi I love. I’ve seen them twice in concert. They put on a fantastic show!

Now Jon’s hair has gone  gray like the rest of us (except me of course LOL), but still he can belt out a song and stays true to himself and his family.  One hell of an entertainer too!

Garth Brooks, Friends in Low Places, Thunder Rolls, The Dance, and  again, gotta be honest love most his songs. I’ve also seen him in concert several times.  In fact when he was just getting started, he was one of the free side acts at the Colorado State Fair, not headliner. But he was the most down to earth person you’ll ever want to meet. He talked with people as they passed by, made jokes, and generally entertained all. We knew after watching him the first time captivate his listeners at the Colorado State Fair he was going to be a MEGA star.  Our predictions were so right on!

Now I have to mention Elvis Presley, Can’t Help Falling in Love. We had that played at our wedding, many, many moons ago.

Def Leppard, gotta love Pour Some Sugar on Me LOL – Hubby and I sat with their families at an outdoor concert. It was a dream come true!  Believe me they perform  for their families!

I could go on and on and on, but I’ll stop here. There you have it my favorite songs or musicians! What are your favorite Songs or Musicians? Please post it in the comments!

“It feels like all the air is being sucked out of this room.” His brother’s face turned ashen white as Beth’s ghostly form took shape in the center of the room.

Brock moved to the little group gathered and glanced at the grandfather clock standing in the hallway. Fifteen minutes until midnight. The witching hour on All Hallows Eve. A nervous chuckle rose up in his throat. How cliche. His brother would be a believer after this night.

He cleared his throat and wrapped an arm around Gwen’s waist. “Can we help you, Beth?” Misfit’s howling could be heard clearly from the upstairs bedroom.

“No, but I hope we can help you.” Ghost Beth glanced back at the painting and sadly shook her head. “The ghost of Judge John Hathorne stands outside ready to curse or worse all those involved in sullying his reputation. The house stands between all of you…protecting—” The ghost’s hand and arm made a sweeping motion toward their group, “— against his magic ability.”

A soft almost hysterical giggle burst from Gwen. “Doesn’t he know that by his actions this night, he has not only outed himself but proved the rumors and article are true?”

“I don’t believe he’s considered that point.” Beth’s ghostly grim face twitched into a half-smile. “He’s bent on revenge, but apparently had trouble passing through the veil this evening.” She pointed to the clock and then laid a finger on her lips.

Happy Halloween – Colorado Hauntings

IMG_5623Celebrating a spooktacular Halloween  on My Say What Blog, so today is the final haunting article about Halloween.  What’s not to love about Halloween?  One day out of the year you can dress up and pretend to be anything you want and people don’t think you’re crazy.  Okay, well, not as crazy as if it wasn’t Halloween!

One of the highest haunts in Colorado is the Stanley Hotel at an altitude of over 7,500 feet. Bawawawa!  You know the one that claims to be the 2006-estes-park-the-stanley-hotel-008inspiration for Stephen’s King’s The Shining (REDRUM – MURDER) .  The Hotel was built in 1909 by Freelan and Flora Stanley of Stanley Steamer fortune.  Originally, they came to Colorado in an attempt to alleviate the symptoms of Freelan’s tuberculosis. They fell in love with Colorado and purchased property and built a home. The Stanley was built as a summer resort for guests Freelan and Flora entertained during their extended vacations in Colorado.

2006-estes-park-stanley-hotel-2It’s believed Flora haunts the hotel to this day, enjoying one of her favorite pastimes of playing the piano late at night when no one is around. Tales abound of visitors claiming sounds of revelry occurring in the empty ballroom.  Room 217 is purported to be haunted by the ghost of a long-term housekeeper. If you gain her favor, she’ll help you unpack. If not…. Well…. It is the room allegedly occupied by Stephen King at one time. Inspiring The Shining?

I don’t know about that, but the hair on the back of my neck stood up as I took photos of The Stanley Hotel outside in broad daylight.

Speaking of Hauntings!

Did you know, most present day Halloween traditions are traceable to the ancient Celtic day of the dead? Halloween consists of mysterious customs, buthalloween image each has a history, or at least a story behind it.

Take wearing costumes, and roaming from door to door demanding treats. This behavior can be traced to the Celtic period and the first few centuries of the Christian era, when it was thought that the souls of the dead were out and about, along with fairies, witches, and demons. Offerings of food and drink were left out to placate them. As the centuries wore on, people began dressing like these creatures, performing antics in exchange for food and drink. This is where the practice of trick-or-treating began. To this day, vampires, witches, ghosts, and skeletons are among the favorite costumes.

Our Halloween also retains activities from the original harvest holiday of Samhain, such as bobbing for apples and carving vegetables, (pumpkins) as well as the fruits, nuts, and spices for cider associated with the day. Although at my house, hot chocolate is pretty popular, since Halloween almost guarantees the first snow of the year.

Looking for fun Halloween Reads? A Witch’s Journey Series are full of meddling ghosts, shapeshifters, sexy witch, a ruggedly-handsome Navy SEAL. Exciting stories of paranormal romance, redemption, wildlife rescue, time travel, and Halloween festivals. Available at Amazon.com, Kobo, and Barnes & Noble.  And I let you in on a little secret.  A Witch’s Journey and A Witch’s Holiday Wedding are available in audiobooks.  Hidden Gypsy Magic, my latest release is the third book in the series.  You’ll want to grab them all.

If vampires, werewolves, faeries, shapeshifters are you thing.  You are going to want to check out A Demon’s WItch Series!  Great Halloween Reads or for every other day of the year!

greenwitch

Well, if you’ll excuse me, it’s time to don my vampire costume, custom fitted fangs and pull up a stool in the shadows. With a candy bowl beside me, I sneakily turn on the fog machine. Out of the mist, I’ll greet the little trick or treaters or scare the bejeebers out of the older ones with bats hanging over head and screeching on my command. Won’t you join me? Social DIstancing of course with mask. Happy Halloween!
