Favorite Book or Movie Quotes – #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge
Welcome to #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge August 19, 2020, favorite book or movie quotes (and why) ! Well now that’s interesting. Please have a seat, grab an iced tea or lemonade out of the cooler. Be sure and try a chocolate chip or peanut butter cookie.
Okay which one to start with book quotes or movie quotes: Book Quotes:
My friends and family are always asking me if I’m lost. I’m not, just listening to the characters in my head play out the next chapter in my WIP. LOL So naturally the quote, “Not all those who wander are lost.”
The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkein
This poem was written about Aragorn, a humble human king who undertakes great journeys and explorations. It is used twice in ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’, once by Gandalf in a letter to Frodo and later by Bilbo, and is an attempt to persuade Frodo of Aragorn’s importance to Middle Earth. It is also an exhortation to the reader to see beyond his own value systems.
This is one of my mantras. Goes with you can be anything you want to be as long as you are willing to work hard to get it. (Yep my mom said that. But also said writing was not a way to making a living.) “It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K. Rowling
Another book written for children but loved by adults. This is a comment made by Professor Albus Dumbledore to Cornelius Fudge. Cornelius has expressed the opinion that ‘Muggles’ and ‘Mudbloods’ (humans and half-humans) are inferior to wizards and witches. Albus responds by asserting that it is not pedigree that matters but talent.
“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting”
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
My darling Eve.
Roark from JD Robb In Death Series. Seems each time he says this either he is in trouble or she is and I have to laugh at the situation.
Movie Quotes:
“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” – Gone With the Wind, 1939 – Now admit it everyone loves this!
“Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” – The Wizard of Oz, 1939
Fun fact: As one of the most famous movie quotes in film history, this line has been parodied by many different movies and television shows.
“May the Force be with you.” – Star Wars, 1977 – I’m a huge Star Wars fan, so of course this is one of my favorites. LOL
“What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.” – Cool Hand Luke, 1967 – My hubby uses this all the time. When in fact, it’s really his failure to communicate. LOL
“I’ll be back.” – The Terminator, 1984 – I love this one.
“I feel the need – the need for speed!” – Top Gun, 1986 – Loved this movie and can’t wait for the new one in December 2020 (maybe)
So there you have it Favorite book or movie quotes (and why) . How about you? Got favorite book or movie quotes?

Good ones. Every time I see the ‘need for speed’ one, it makes me think of the line from the SNL skit where Christopher Walken says “I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell.” 🙂
I never heard of that SNL one. Its great. Thanks for the morning giggle Megan and for stopping by!
That Toto quote is a great one!
Hey Lydia! Yeah, The Wizard of Oz was one of my favorite movies going up.
That’s a really fun collection.
“May the Force be with you.” ~Any Star Wars fan.
“And also with you.” ~Any Episcopalians and/or Catholics in response.
I’d completely forgotten to mention the Tolkien quote, but that’s one of my favorites, too. My list is here.
Thanks for stopping by Michael! May the force be with you will live forever. LOL
Great quotes! I love the one from LOTR, I actually included one from The Hobbit in my list. 🙂 And my favorite quote from the Star Wars franchise always was, “Aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?” Mainly because I’m exactly that – short.
My post
Hey Aymee! Thanks so much for stopping by, I’d forgotten all about the short quote. LOL Thanks for the reminder.
Cool Hand Luke, was such a great movie. Forgot about that quote, it’s so appropriate for many things. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/08/wc-081920.html
Thanks for stopping by Patrick!
I love that bit at the end of Goblet of Fire where Dumbledore gets angry at Fudge!! – he has some great quotes all through the books.
So true. Thanks for stopping by Catherine!
I have said every single one of those (except “Darling Eve”) hundreds of times… very, very good choices!
Thank you so much Marianne! Glad you stopped by and enjoyed the quotes.
