New Hobby -Drones #L&SR’s #Wednesday’s Blog Challenge 1-22-20
Welcome to #L&SR’s #Wednesday’s Blog Challenge 1-22-2020 New Hobby I’m trying or would like to try! Drones!
This falls into the want to try category. Drones. Yep, years ago my hubby and I flew remote control helicopters. It say it was a blast, is an understatement. But eventually we lost my favorite in the blue sky and it crashed to the earth in a million pieces. We did repair it, but it sits on a shelf gathering dust because I’m afraid to fly it again. Anyway, I digress.
In researching drones, I decided to start with a mini and learn to fly it then graduate to the drones that can shoot 4K of video. My hubby is a photographer and that’s his ultimate goal. Me, I want to fly over places and enjoy the scenery.
My choice is a Mavic Mini then upgrade to the Mavic Air which files 2.4 miles with a maximum speed of 42.5 miles mph. It has forward and backward obstacles avoidance to help keep from crashing into things. Gee I wonder if they have obstacle avoidance for humans? Now that would be something I could use. LOL My ultimate dream machine, the Mavic Phantom quad. Yep it’s out of my price range right now. It has a three-axis stabilized camera with a 20 megapixel sensor. It also has four-direction obstacle avoidance and six camera navigation system so it will avoid crashing into things as it flies up to 31 mph with a 4.3 mile range (unobstructed). But it must be registered with the FAA.
I’m sure you’ve heard about the mysterious squadron of six to ten drones buzzing over the Midwest, great planes to include Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska at night. They fly between seven and ten at night in a grid link pattern. Funny thing’s no one has any answers as to who is flying these drones. The Federal Aviation Administration, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army forces Command have been contacted and claim to have no information. Gee, imagine that. One thing I do know, it’s not me. LOL
Alas, back to my writing cave where deadlines loom, so let’s see what other authors list as new hobby I”m trying or would like to try. L&SR
How about you, any new hobby or one you want to try? Please list them in the comments.

Oh my word, that sounds like so much fun!! You’ll have to share your experiences on here.
Thank you Marianne! I plan to do just that. Thanks for stopping by!
Wow, flying drones is such a cool hobby!
My post. Thanks fo visting earlier.
Thanks for stopping by Lydia. I appreciate it!
I’d love to get a drone and get pictures of Sandia Mountain when it’s red at sundown. On the ground all you get is telephone poles and wires or buildings. A drone would be perfect for this. On my to do list.
Yep, the pictures should be interesting. Thanks for stopping by!
okay.. you win for the coolest new hobby. My husband wants one as well, but mainly for fishing 🙂 My post is here https://jhthomas.blogspot.com/2020/01/wednesday-weekly-blogging-challenge-new.html
Hey Judy thanks for stopping by! Yep Drones are cool. Now all I have to do is learn to fly it. LOL
At least if you let go of the controls, they hoover on their own. LOL
Judy, Wait… I just have to ask… fishing with a drone? How?
That would be a ton of fun! My husband loved remote control cars, but he never ventured into anything that flew (likely because he broke enough of the ones that stayed on the ground). Good luck and have fun!
Thank you for stopping by Aymee. Yeah we had remote monster trucks, we broke those too. Seemed like they just fell apart. LOL
So true. They aren’t as rough and tumble as you’d think.
Nope, but they do just hover if you let go of the controls.
I like drones, but I don’t like when my neighbor flies his over my house. It’s creepy. But hey, they do look cool. If it’s anything like driving cars on the gaming systems, then I’m not drone material. Is it hard?
Thanks for stopping by earlier!
I’m just doing the research right now. Most of them hover when you release the controls. that feature is a must for me. That’s better than our helicopters, which were tough for a person who has trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time. LOL Thanks for stopping by!
This sounds like so much fun! You’ll have to share with us some of your footage of cool things you see from the air.
Sharing some of my footage is the plan, first I need to learn to fly the dang thing. Wish me luck!
Drone flying. That’s an interesting one and a fantastic way to see remote parts of the world (not the neighborhood though). I’d like to try it but I’d also be afraid I’d crash because I’d be looking at the scenery more than the controls. LOL
I hope that doesn’t happen to me. Only time will tell. LOL Thanks for stopping by!
Oh how fun! My husband likes to fly these around, too. Personally I’d love to get the shark one to have it float through our house!
shark one? Didn’t know they had one. That would be interesting! Thanks for stopping by!
Loved “Avatar” Tena! Your other couples are fabulous!
Thank you Mary!
Avatar is one of my all time favorite movies.
