A little bit about Chocolate Raspberry Magic:  Pssst. please don’t forget to download your copy and join the adventure!

Prim and proper Trinity Shiloh is the assistant manager for Salem’s Wildlife Sanctuary. She hasn’t had much luck in the boyfriend department, but the new employee Paul is different. Deep and brooding she sees something special hidden below the surface. Besides she has secrets of her own.
Paul Thorp is a wounded Special Forces veteran now working in security and computer support at the Sanctuary. He’s fought hard to keep his demons in check and for the first time feels he is ready for a real relationship.
When a fire breaks out at Puffin Cove Rescue, they are called in to help with the recovery and ice cream social fundraiser. Sometimes things are not what they seem, and neither are people. When magic is unleashed, will what they learn bring them closer together or push them apart?

A sneak peek between the pages of CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY MAGIC:

As Paul exited the vehicle a trickle of sweat rolled down the side of his face. Scenes from a far-off place blurred his vision. Explosions, gunfire, and the smell of death drowned out the present. Resting a shaky hand on the vehicle, he leaned against it, his pulse ratcheting up several notches.

Get a grip. I can’t let this go sideways. Drawing in deep breaths, he tried to gain control. Finally, his pulse slowed, and he swallowed hard. I can do this. Wiping away the sweat now streaming down his face, he closed his eyes willing the flashback away.

“Paul…Paul are you all right?” Trinity’s urgent voice brought focus to his mind. A soft but firm hand on his shoulder gave him a little shake. “Lathen and Pepper are heading toward us. Maybe they can tell us where Gwen and Brock are.”

“Yes. I’m fine. Give me a minute.” Straightening, he opened the back door to the vehicle, and began removing boxes of medical supplies and lockboxes of medicine. He mopped his face again with the sleeve of his shirt. Going through the motions until…

“Oh, wonderful, you’ve brought the supplies.” Pepper’s cheerful voice cut through the chaos. “We’ll need these…” She paused lifting an eyebrow. “You all right Paul?”

“Yes, yes, just give me a minute.”  Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Pepper’s concerned expression then her waving Lathen over.  Shit, that’s all I need. Trinity stood beside helping him take the boxes out of the SUV.

He saw concern reflected on his friend’s face. “Paul, you’re okay. Let’s get going.” Lathen gave him a shake, then turned and got in his face. “Don’t give in to it. Push it away. Get moving. People are counting on you.”

Was it sheer will? Or—what he wasn’t sure. But as suddenly as the visions began, they faded leaving him shaky but in control. “I’m good,” he assured Lathen, picking up a box of medical supplies and following Pepper to a tent they’d set up to evaluate the animals.

Click on the cover to read more or purchase.

A little about A MAGIC REDEMPTION – Even with magic, finding your place in the world proves more difficult than imagined especially when someone is out for revenge.

Synn, a demon, carries extraordinary magic and power, but there is more within her than she dreams. Kidnapped as a child, her captors murdered her family and forced her into training as a warrior assassin. When an assignment goes horribly wrong, she finds herself at the mercy of the friends and family of her intended target.  Offering valuable information in exchange for protection, she gains her freedom, but it is not without its challenges.

Gavin Shaughnessy is the publican at his family’s Irish pub.  He is certain Synn is meant to be his and isn’t bothered by her past.  He must find a way to convince her, their future together is stronger than the dark memories that haunt her dreams.

When her past comes calling for revenge, will their love survive the raging inferno she brings down upon them? Or will the searing path of destruction destroy all they hold dear?

A peek between the pages of A Magic Redemption:

Time seemed to go on forever as she slowed and walked backward for a while, her foot steps in the sand filling with water as she traveled along the shoreline, as if nature erased her intrusion. She turned around and continued her trek. Unaware of how long or how far she’d walked, the sudden outline of a figure, cloaked in the fog, jogging toward her caused panic to set in. Her heart pounded rapidly in her chest, she swallowed hard, adrenalin pumping through her veins as flight or fight response kicked in. Digging her good foot into the sand she prepared to attempt a sprint…to where. Where the hell am I? A quick glance around, she spied a light from a familiar building far off on the bluffs as the figure burst from the fog. A tall, wide-shouldered male with long muscular legs came closer. She froze.

Once lithe, strong and agile in her former life, a boss’s retaliation had taken a toll on her body. Now tired her gait was uneven and unsteady, even a slow sprint would likely end with her face planted in the sand.

A little about CHARM ME also on sale for 99 cents – It’s never too late for a second chance at love. Especially with Valentine’s Day Magic!

After fleeing a troubled past, all Summer Riley, an elemental witch, wants is to be left alone. She leaves her home on the east coast and takes a yoga instructor position in Colorado Springs to escape the drama in her life. The last thing she needs is complications with Devlin Sawyer, a ruggedly handsome retired Navy SEAL with secrets of his own. But when she enrolls in a women’s weapons class at Devlin’s state of the art gun club, that is exactly what she encounters. With her guard dog, Piper, she navigates the perilous waters of trust, friendship, and learning to ski. Will Summer and Devlin give love a second chance?

I was inspired to write this book by a yoga instructor in my dog’s obedience class. At the same time I was taking a woman’s weapons class at a private gun club to get my concealed carry permit. I wound the two together and Charm Me was born. A fun, flirty romance set in Divide, Colorado. A great weekend read

A fun and flirty holiday read centered around a retired Navy SEAL and a Yogi Instructor that turns out to be a witch, but he’s got secrets too. A magical read!  http://amzn.com/B018L2U904

A sneak peek between the pages of CHARM ME!

Getting to her feet, she brushed the dust from her black yoga pants, tugged at the bottom of her bright orange tunic, and flipped the light switch on. A soft glow of florescent lighting flooded the large room, soothing Summer’s nerves. Guess she would never be the same carefree individual she was before the incident. Oh, shake it off. You’re safe and it’s time to get on with life. “Come on Pip, let’s get this place open.”

A massive stone fireplace towered in the corner.  She picked up an arm full of wood and flung it in the general direction. Logs landed in the fire pit and neatly arranged themselves in a tepee shape. With a magic flick of her finger toward the hearth, flames raced up the aspen logs. “That’s better.”

She raised her arms, about to send the yoga mats back to their proper place when the heavy wooden front door creaked open. Piper rushed toward the door, teeth bared and a growl rumbled in her throat. Summer whirled around and yelped as Devlin ambled into the room, black hair tousled and glistening with melting snowflakes. His nonchalance at the dog’s approach surprised her as he slowed to a stop. Piper sniffed around him, backed up a few inches, then stood at alert in front of Devlin.

“You scared the bejeebers out of me.” Summer held her hand to her chest as her heart thundered.

“What are you doing here?”

“Call your guard dog off and I’ll tell you.” The corners of Devlin’s mouth curved up into a smile, a faint light twinkled in the depths of his dark eyes.

Interview Matt Raftis Narrator A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance

Give a warm welcome to Matt Raftis talented narrator of A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance.  Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and let’s find out a little about Matt Raftis and his ability to bring my characters to life in A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance.

Click on cover for sample audio excerpt from Audible

How did you wind up narrating audiobooks? Was it always your goal or was it something you stumbled into by chance?

I’ve been into Audiobooks since I was in high school (circa 2007). I would listen to many audiobooks, especially any narrated by Jim Dale.  I admired his remarkable ability to make the listener feel as if they we’re in the thick of the action.

I found it challenging to discover how to really get into this industry. What college or university courses do I take? How does one really become an Audiobook narrator?  Over the years I have had family, friends, and even strangers waiting in the grocery line complimenting my strong reading voice and projection. This kept the idea alive that I could try my hand at such Audiobooks and see what kind of response I would get.

A close friend of mine mentioned a website called ACX.com about a year ago and I was amazed how many voice acting opportunities there were on there. I sent in many auditions for all sorts of books and was taken aback by the response I received. Presently, I’ve narrated a total of 12 books and get offers for more very frequently. I am very grateful for all the opportunities presented to me, and the connections I have made in the world of Audiobook narrating.

Do you have another job besides being a narrator?

Yes, I do work a manual labor job, clocking in 40 to 60 hours a week. Although it takes time away from recording and mastering each book, I cannot deny the benefits it’s given me. It helps greatly with my stamina for narrating, (and someone’s gotta pay the bills..), but most importantly I see it as a driving force to make Audiobook narrating my full time career down the road.

A lot of narrators seem to have a background in theatre.  Do you? Is that something you think is essential to a successful narration career? Why or why not?

I don’t have a background in theatre or drama. I DO believe that having a degree, course or seminar in acting/theatre does help one dramatically for character delivery. If I do ever make it to the point where I can make this my career, I plan on attending open mic nights and workshops on the regular. It’ll be very beneficial!

Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?

Yes, I absolutely enjoy listening to any audiobook. The big deciding factor on if I finish listening to it is largely dependent on the Narrator. I am a very auditory person. I like to listen and really give my full attention to what is being said and, more importantly, how it is being said. At this point, it is safe to say that I have finished more books through listening to them then I have physically flipping through the pages of any hardcover on my shelf.

Is there a particular genre you feel unsuited for? Have you ever declined a project because you didn’t think you were right for it?

I am at the stage in my career where I have yet to find any genre or project I am not willing to do. I am still building an arsenal of accents and characters to have at my disposal. So, if there are any books that I may need to decline, it may be the ones that have a super diverse characters with largely varying accents (that I still need to practice).

How closely do you prefer to work with authors?

I love to work with authors as closely as I can. Communication is key to getting a product that all parties (and readers) can truly enjoy and be proud of. However, I fully appreciate the authors time and that each party involved can have different visions for the end result. As a Narrator, I love having some creative freedom on a project, but I also know how important the creator’s vision is. Communication is important to making sure the audience enjoys the end result.

Has anyone ever recognized you from your voice?

From audiobooks? No, not yet. However, I do freelance voice acting and voice over for a number of youtube channels. Actually, quite recently I have been recognized by a few co-workers who heard me in a Youtube video for a parody animation of a video game. I was incredibly taken aback and humbled by it.

Have there been any characters that you really connected with?

From “A Vampires Unlikely Alliance”, I connected with Stefan a lot more than I bargained for. I have always been somewhat of an introvert or recluse, some might say. But with the help of my lovely girlfriend (soon fiancée) and close family and friends who believed in me, I have opened up and embraced the many wonderful changes and opportunities that have come into my life.

Like Stefan, I’m eternally grateful to those who helped me get to where I am today.

Do you read reviews for your audiobooks?

Yes. I’m always on the hunt for feedback to improve my abilities. Thankfully, I do have pretty tough skin and the courage to be disliked from time to time. So in turn, I take criticism as it comes without losing heart and giving up this wonderful medium, and instead see it as encouragement for improvement.

What type of the review comments do you find most constructive?

I find the most helpful feedback is often how audiences would have liked to hear it. Or how they themselves imagined the story, scene or character. If they provide examples, then even better! I’m very proficient at mimicking and working off of other material. Having something I can listen to helps me tremendously.

Who is your “dream author” that you would like to record for?

Richard A. Knaak. I read a tonne of his fantasy books back in my High School years. Not all of his work has been made into audiobooks, so I would love to record his books for him one day!

What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?

To each his own. Some people absorb information easier when visually reading, and can remember it better too. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that I am not that kind of person. It took me a long time to find out that I take in information better (and have a better recollection of that information) when I am listening intently.

I would say that listening to Audiobooks is what GOT ME into becoming a Narrator. And hopefully, with the support of many readers and listeners, I can turn this into a long, prosperous and rewarding career!

A little about A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance:

Stefan is a Native American vampire, former assassin for the Vampire Council. In a twist of fate, he now DJ’s the midnight shift for a small radio station in Whitefish, Montana, on the edge of Glacier National Park where his secret is safe until…

Born in Ireland, Brandy now works as a park ranger and trail guide in the park. During a full moon, Stefan and Brandy’s paths cross in a near physical collision on a trail. Their attraction is immediate and undeniable, almost as if fate demanded it.

Their union was foretold long ago in Irish folk tales where vampires and gryphons, warlocks and demons, witches and faeries must work together for the good of man and magic kind. Is a trip to Ireland the key to unraveling secrets and returning the magic? And even more importantly, will their love survive the trip?

A sneak peek between the pages of A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance:

He needed to hunt. Next to human blood, animal blood had all the appeal of rotten eggs, but it kept him sated and able to work among warm-bloods. Tonight he should’ve hunted, but he didn’t give a damn.

He stepped out into the cold, misty night and closed the door quietly behind him. As he walked down the dark, wet street, he heard footsteps behind him and paused.

“Stefan, what happened back there?” A voice whispered out of the foggy night.

Crouched down ready to spring, he whirled around, sniffed the air, and then stood, relieved yet shocked to see Brandy glide out of the swirling mist into the shrouded moonlight.

Christmas Traditions-Karily Bentley Author of Demon Lore

Happy holidays to all!  Give a big welcome to Karilyn Bentley, author of Demon Lore. Now out on audio book! Yippee!  Great Christmas gift.  Just say’n.  Have a seat and grab an insulated mug. I’ve got hot chocolate, hot cider and coffee. Choose your pot, they’re labeled. Pick your choice of a Snicker-doodle, Chocolate Chip or Peanut butter cookie from the plate. Yep, I baked them myself. Lets see what  Christmas Traditions Karilyn is sharing and a little about Demon Lore’s audiobook.  Thanks for joining us!

What makes you angry?

Injustice in the world.

Do you throw a Christmas get together?

Does inviting the whole family to go ice skating count? It started off small and now all the kids (aka my nieces and nephews) look forward to it all year along.

Favorite holiday memory

When I was a child, we didn’t have a lot of money, so we’d make “special” gifts. Like a 24 carrot necklace (get the pun??). We’d also hide the gifts, then attach yarn to them so you’d have to unwrap the ball of yarn to get to your gift (while crawling over and under other’s yarn strings). Dad would hide gifts and write funny poems telling where to find them. He’d usually write two to three poems per gift. We’d have to run around the house trying to figure out what the poem was talking about in order to find our gift.

Who is your favorite character of all of the books you’ve written and Why?

Gin Crawford, the heroine of the Demon Huntress series. She’s snarky and troubled and it was fun to watch her grow and change. Writing a snarky character was fun because she says things I wouldn’t dare. Since she’s imaginary she can get by with it. <grin>

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

I’d love to have telekinesis. That way I could move things by thinking of it. Like, sit and write while dusting. I hate dusting! <g>

SPEED ROUND FOR A LITTLE ADDED FUN: Speed Round (one word only answer): Yep, I know torture for a writer!<evil laugh>

Favorite Christmas movie: A Christmas Story
Favorite Christmas book: ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
Last Christmas or holiday book read: How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Favorite Christmas Carole or song: Wizards in Winter (by TSO)

All-time favorite Christmas present: jewelry

Favorite dessert: Carrot cake

Christmas Candy or Cake: Cake

Favorite thing to do to relax during the holidays: read

Champagne or gin or eggnog: champagne

Paranormal or Historical: Paranormal

Tell us a little about Demon Lore, narrated by Joan Kukore.

Gin Crawford has enough problems dealing with her empath abilities. Finding out she’s the world’s newest demon-slayer is the last thing she needs. Unfortunately, when she slips on a mysterious bracelet she is given no other choice. On the plus side, her new gig comes with Tall, Dark and Handsome, a mage who may or may not have her best interests at heart. Thrust into a power-play between good and evil, Gin must choose a side before she becomes the next victim in the ongoing battle.

The audio book is wonderful! I listened to a snippet of it.  I love audio books to listen to while running errands, or taking a break out in the sunroom.

A peek between the pages of A DEMON LORE. To hear a snippet of the audio book, click here.

The evil man-thing stands on my porch, his lips turning in a menacing smile of death. I don’t need to touch him to know he wants me dead. Muscles freeze, trapping my breath in my lungs. Like a rabbit in view of a wolf, I’m immobilized, waiting for death’s blow. Time slows, his gaze locks on mine, trapping me in place.

Move, move, move! My mind screams as the man’s fingers twitch.

But the spike of adrenaline explodes into my limbs too late to stop the backhand blow slamming across my jaw.

I superman it halfway across the living room. Land on the hardwood floor in a thud of pain-ridden limbs. My jaw morphs into a screaming ball of nerves. My head no sooner hits the floor than I hear the bracelet scream, a high-pitched wail quivering through my skin like vibrations from a tuning fork. The bracelet tightens around my wrist, cutting off the circulation, and then it loosens with a pop at the same time I hear the door click closed.

Ohgodohgodohgod, I’m going to die. I don’t want to die. No, no, no, no, no. Pain and terror hold me crumpled on the floor as my mind crawls backward in time.

But I’m no longer a child, fearful of fists and words, cowering on the ground.

I’m a fighter.

My head spins, but I refuse to lie on the floor waiting to be killed, so I attempt to stand. Evil Guy laughs as I ass-plant it. Laughs as a moan escapes my lips. He takes a step toward me, right arm drawn back for a hit. His fist hurls toward my face, but I manage to block it with my left arm. My right arm, the one with the bracelet, shoves forward, slamming into his chest.

His black eyes widen, mouth open in surprise, his hands fluttering to his chest before dropping. I stare at my hand, stare hard, for I’m as surprised as Evil Guy. The bracelet had become a sword, a long, thin spike of metal extending from the silver links, straight into Evil Guy’s heart.

A sword?

Definitely a sword. The flat of the blade rests against the back of my hand, cool metal heating from the warmth of my skin. Small silver links circle around my palm, lending stability to the two-foot long sword.

I’m not sure which scares me more, Evil Guy paying me a visit or the fact the bracelet performed a morphing trick.
