What inspired you to write?

I love reading paranormal romance, exploring the mysterious and other worldly. At some point, I started to think – Hey, I could write this. I had to muster enough courage to sit down and try, and when I did I realized it was a lot harder than I’d imagined. Even with the myriad of challenges it takes to put pen to paper, once I started writing, I thrived on the creative energy. I’m constantly amazed by the wandering of my mind as it leads me to the next part of the story and the complexity of the characters who emerge in the process. I see the story, and writing itself, as a continuous inspiration.

Did you tell friends and family that you were writing a book? Or did it take a while to come out and tell friends and family you were a writer?

Not at first. I was too embarrassed. I wrote the first two books in the Quytel Series by waking up at 5am to write for two hours before I left for work. I then promptly filed both manuscripts away in a box in my closet. A writer friend of mine had to convince me that I should at least let someone else read them. I did finally share an early draft of Circle of Dreams with her and select members of my family, without any of the sex scenes mind you. I cleverly replaced them with *INSERT STEAMY SEX SCENE HERE*. Now it is out there for the world, and my family to read-gulp. But so far, so good! For more on this, see my guest blog post today on Fang-tastic Books: http://fang-tasticbooks.blogspot.com

Where do your story ideas come from?

This is such a good question and I have no idea. The creative recesses of the mind, if I were to guess. What I do know is that in order for my story and characters to come into focus, I need down time when I’m not thinking or worrying about anything else, which is increasingly difficult as life gets busy. When I was writing the first two books in the series, I had a commute to my day job which included a bus, metro, and a walk.  That twenty-minute walk was like gold. I could let my mind relax, wander, and I frequently stopped to jot down the next twist and turn in the story.

What secret do you use to blast through writer’s block?

Writer’s block is scary. I find it creeps up on me slowly until I suddenly realize I’m not writing. I’m not sure how that happens, but once it does, I have to force myself back into a routine. I thrive with a routine. That means carving out time, and writing every day, even if it stinks… until it doesn’t.

I think we can all relate to that!

Tell us a little about Circle of Dreams!
Spheres of power usher a new and dangerous secret.

Leader of an elite psychic team, Cole Courtland is a shape-shifting wolf with a deep connection to the power of the Earth. His investigation of a string of mysterious murders throws him into the dangerous world of the Quytel and leads him straight to Brianna Doherty’s door.
Bri is plagued by vicious nightmares of death and pain that leave her wondering about her own history. When her home is under siege, an enigmatic stranger appears out of nowhere to save her.
Thrown together in a tangle of desire and danger, they are pulled deeper into the secretive world of the Quytel, an ancient order charged with maintaining the balance of psychic and paranormal power on earth. Staying one step ahead of those who would destroy them, they struggle to unravel the truth of Bri’s past and her family legacy. As her relationship with Cole grows stronger, the reality of who Bri is threatens to tear them apart.

A sneak peek between the pages of Circle of Dreams

Bri knew him. It had been his face in her nightmare. His presence had soothed and calmed her that night. He stood right in front of her now and had just ripped the door off a room no one should have been able to find.

Please don’t let him be my enemy, she whispered in her mind. Who else could he be?

Holding the gun more firmly locked on her target, Bri hoped it deterred him because she knew she would never be able to shoot this beautiful man.

“Are you going to shoot me?” His voice, strong and clear, didn’t sound too worried.

Bri shivered. A sharp stab of desire shot straight through her, and at first she didn’t really register his words.

“We don’t have much time,” he pressed.

A thud downstairs startled her. The man moved fast. She had no time to react before he snatched the 9-millimeter easily out of her hand. He tucked it into the waistband of his jeans and grabbed her other arm.

His touch was electric. When he took a step closer, he crowded her and she could almost feel the hard muscles of his broad chest. The loss of her gun left her completely vulnerable.

He placed a finger lightly against her trembling lips and her stomach did a slow roll. “Don’t move. Don’t yell.” He whispered the words softly into the shell of her ear. “I’m here to help you, Brianna. You have to trust me.”

She shivered. How did he know her name? She felt trapped, caught in an overpowering spell that heated her body. She was tall, but he was taller. And gorgeous, much better looking than she remembered from her nightmare. A part of her recognized she should be far more frightened of him than she was.

“There are men downstairs tearing your house apart right now. I have no idea why they’re searching for you. I can get you out of here, but we have to go now.” A quiet command. “I’m not here to hurt you. Trust me.”

Bri took a defensive step away. He didn’t let her go far, silver-gray eyes holding hers, willing her to believe him. The secret passageways inside the walls of the house would be too risky now that the room had been exposed.
