Sneak peek between the pages of A Witch’s Quandary:

Inside the shop, Gale watched and listened to the exchange of her friends, hoping they’d just leave. She wasn’t ready to face them. This morning, her mirror had revealed dark circles under her normally bright green eyes and skin puffy from tears. How can I explain? I’m still not sure I made the right decision. But my livelihood depends on my opening the shop. I’ve got to face everyone some time. Might as well…

“I think she’s in there.” Cori cupped her hands around her face, pressed her nose to the glass, and tried to peer in the crack between the shade and the window where sunlight streamed in and spread across the polished but dusty hardwood floor. A shadow loomed over the end of the sunny stream.

She stepped back out of the stream of sunlight—too late.

Bridget knocked on the window. “Hey Gale, we can see you. Whatever it is, your secret is safe with us.” She rapped on the window harder this time.

Bells tinkled, after a creak and a groan, the door opened a crack. She unlocked the chain that allowed only a three-inch opening. “Been ill. Don’t feel like company.”

Bridget barreled through, knocking her aside, and shoved the door open wide. The other women cautiously followed in their friend’s wake. Never one for mincing words, her friend narrowed her eyes and stared. “What the hell is up with you?” Bridget paused in the center of the dismal showroom and glanced around, then returned her penetrating gaze to Gale.

Synn remained stuck in place, appalled at Bridget’s lack of decorum. “Gale, we were worried about you.”

“We’ve been friends for years. Never a secret between us. I’ve never known you to even have the sniffles. Now out with it.” Bridget paced hands on hips, eyes narrowed sizing up her friend. “Heard Dillon went back to Scotland last week. Is that what this is all about?”

Gale blew out a breath and flipped her long ginger braid over her shoulder. I should have known better than to keep this from my friends. “Anyone want tea besides me?”

“I wish I had time,” Cori began. “But I really need the rose lotion you fixed up for me. I’m out, and Amos tossed my alternate lotion. Said it stunk.”

In spite of herself, she giggled. “Men can be so…pig-headed, stubborn, and unappreciative.” She shuffled behind the counter, slid open a mirrored case, and took out a large bottle of creamy pink lotion. Reaching for a smaller bottle in the lower cupboard, she poured a quarter of the contents from the larger into the smaller decorative bottle. “There, that should hold you. I keep a supply of your lotion on hand. It’s popular.” She screwed the cap back on the big bottle and returned it to the case. “Here you go.” Handing the smaller bottle to Cori, she smiled. “Sorry to cause a problem.”

Cori handed her payment and took the bottle. “No problem. I was worried when you were closed for so long.” She took the top off the bottle and sniffed. “Perfect.” Spilling lotion into her hand, she offered the others a dab, then rubbed it into her own hands. “Gotta go. Thank you so much.” She nudged Bridget with her elbow, whispering, “I’ll call tonight to get the scoop.”

“I’m standing right here, Cori.” She fisted a hand on her hip. “Dillon left me. Okay. That’s the scoop.”

“What?” the women cried in unison.

“Well, you can never trust a Scotsman.” Bridget flounced across the floor to wrap an arm around her.

. So…” Gale waved her hand toward the corner of her showroom. A straw broom with a black handle of embedded glittering gems slid neatly out of the corner onto the floor and began sweeping with wide strokes.

Synn narrowed her eyes and continued to stare suspiciously at her friend. “Is that the way of it?”

Sneak peek between the pages of A Witch’s Quandary:

“This is an outrage. It’s my firm.” Bram bellowed slamming his fist down on the table. Sparks flew in all directions creating a red-hot spider web of power crackling across the tabletop. Everyone at the table scrambled back or stood.  Dillon caught the malevolent spark in his father’s eye a split-second after Gale. She had already brought her hands together, the room sizzled as she conjured a ball of fire and with a few words sent the witch fire and spell at him.

“What have you done?” Bram screeched as the fire and spell hit him center mass. “Witchfire too? Bitch.” He slid to the floor.

Iris ran to his side, tears spilling her cheeks, she wiped his sweat-soaked brow with a napkin. “You just couldn’t stop, could you?  What did you do? Make a deal with the devil? We should have put a stop to it. To you. But…” She helped him into a chair. “I’m afraid you’ve messed with the wrong witch, this time. Brought this on yourself. You did. But I won’t let you take this family—the firm—down with you.” Giving his shoulders a little shake, she gazed into his shocked eyes. “What have you done?”

Bram slowly shook his head and murmured, “It’s my firm.” He raised his gaze and glared at Gale pointing a bony finger at her. “You’ll pay for this.” Then turned his attention to Dillon. “I told you nothing good would come from aligning yourself with this witch. Her blood is not pure. Diluted by the Fae power of her…” He broke off.

Dillon stood at Gale’s back his hands steady and supportive on her shoulders as she said nothing for several beats. Eventually, she turned her emerald green eyes to him and held his gaze. “I couldn’t let him divide the family with that dark magic. I tempered my deadly witch fire with the spell.” She tore her gaze from Dillon’s, touching her fingertips to the scorched marks radiating across the table stopping an inch from the edge all around. “If he’d succeeded, there’d been no turning back. If the tendrils of that spell had left the table and reached one of you…” She shook her head.

Appearing to gather his wits about him faster than the rest of his family, Sturgen surveyed the scene, wiped his brow with a monogrammed handkerchief, and sucked in a breath. “The firm is no longer yours.” He squeezed Olivia to him, starting for the door. “We’ve had enough for one night. Let’s adjourn until a full audit of the cases and firm can be conducted.”

****

Gale leaned against Dillon, his strength and calm flowed into her. “I felt your father’s intentions. The intentions he was able to disguise from his family. He planned to destroy all of you.”

“I know. I felt him…hmm…something evil. Only my reaction was a second too late. I’m glad yours wasn’t. How long will he be spellbound? That is what you did. Right?”

“Aye. Among other things. Indefinitely… I hope. He’s got a lot of power that isn’t his. I’ve no way to bind what I don’t know. But it’s evil.”

A Witch’s Quandary #MFRWHooks

It’s a celebration  at #MFRWHooks reads this week. Yippee!! Celebrating the up coming new release of  A WITCH’S QUANDARY my paranormal romance/mystery. WooHoo! !  A Broken Engagement leads to the discovery of stolen magic and malice. Can they weather the storm and find a future together?

Becoming a Solicitor, then partner in the family law firm was never Dillon’s dream. Now it’s his nightmare. Called to Scotland, his father demands he take his rightful place in the firm or be disowned and disinherited. Something is terribly amiss in the firm and family.

During Gale and Dillon’s investigation, they discover the enforcer for the Demon Overlord is also delving into rumors the firm is acting illegally. Sneak peek between the pages of A Witch’s Quandary:

Walking blindly into whatever was going on at Dillon’s firm was irresponsible and fool hearty. He can’t do this alone. No matter how hard she tried, the questions kept circling.  Did his father really send someone here to stalk and seduce me? Why? It was suddenly crystal clear to her that his father didn’t believe their relationship was over. What lengths would he go to to ensure that outcome?  Beads of sweat formed at her brow then trickled down her temple. Would he dispose of me to force Dillon to do his bidding? She swept a hand across her forehead to wipe away the moisture as her heartbeat increased and fear reared its ugly head. Taking several small breaths, she calmed herself. Masked hooted quietly in the tree outside her window. A whine and a yip sounded from the living room alerting her to the fact that Trouble was no longer asleep in her crate.

Slipping quietly out of bed, she shrugged into her robe and padded downstairs. “What’s a matter girl? Need to go outside?” she crooned to the puppy while unlocking the latch. Quickly, she clipped the leash on the pup’s harness and they sprinted to the door. Once outside Trouble immediately did her business then bowed down on her front paws, her rear end wiggling in the air and yipped.

“Shhhh…it’s the wee hours of the morning. Can’t we just go back to bed until the sun comes up?”

She must have dozed off, because the next time she opened her eyes, the sun streamed in the bedroom window highlighting the auburn streaks in Dillon’s tousled sable hair. His sculptured facial features reminded her of the handsome highlander rogues that no doubt existed in his family tree. She listened for the pup, when no sound filtered upstairs, she touched Dillon’s cheek and his stunning deep blue eyes rimmed with thick, dark lashes, the envy of any woman, blinked open. His luscious full lips curved up in a devilish smile easing her trepidation.  A talent he’d possessed since she’d first laid eyes on him.

He reached over and gently caressed the little creases between her eyebrows. “What’s got you frowning so early this morn, Mo Ghra?”

She loved the Gaelic endearment meaning “my eternal love” as the words rolled off his tongue in Scottish brogue. “Nothing. Rough night.” She took his fingers and kissed them before letting him wrap his arms around her again. “I like watching you sleep. You seem so at peace. Rather than carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders as you were when you walked into the pub.”

“Not fair. I was worried about you.”

“Maybe. But that’s not the only reason. I see the trouble in your eyes and feel the turmoil in your heart. Have you so soon forgotten Fae blood pulses through my veins as well as the telltale witch’s magic?”

“I’d never make that mistake. Your Aunt Erin taught me the ways of your family. Not looking forward to facing her again under these circumstances.” He sighed heavily. “What are the chances I get tangled up with a Fae/Witch married to Tiarnan King of Faeries either?”

“Luck of the draw.” She laughed. “Once we explain everything. We need to do that soon. They will understand. It’s not like they’ve never faced family tyranny at its worse. Whose father banishes his only daughter to the Sihde of her Faerie lover never to allow her to see sunlight or feel it on her face again?”

“True. But at least they knew what they were up against. We’ve no idea.”

“For centuries. And no control over fixing it.” She crossed her arms across her chest.

“I see your point. How about we get up, fix a quick breakfast, and take a walk along the cliffs? The pup will like that.”

“Make her easier to manage at the shop too.” She glanced at the clock on the wall. “It’ll have to be a quick walk, I need to open Pixie Magic in a couple of hours.”

Hidden Gypsy Magic, #99cent sale #MFRWHooks

It’s a #99cent celebration  at #MFRWHooks reads this week. Yippee!! Celebrating HIDDEN GYPSY MAGIC, third book in A Witch’s Journey series, my paranormal romance/mystery. WooHoo! !

Discover the consequences of awakening hidden Gypsy magic!

Pull up a chair and get comfy, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and let’s find out a little about HIDDEN GYPSY MAGIC sixth book in A Demon’s Witch Series (all books can be read as a stand alone).

Lets start with what is HIDDEN GYPSY MAGIC is all about.

The Salem Wildlife Sanctuary is Gwen Taylor’s life work. Her Irish Gypsy heritage provides a hidden talent she uses to help the creatures under her care. But even her magical skills can’t help new rescues in dire need of veterinary care.

The opportunity of signing on as the vet for Gwen’s sanctuary dropped into Brock Scutter’s lap after he expanded his practice to include wildlife. The personal attraction he and Gwen experience is undeniable the more their professional and personal lives collide.

Touring the only “non-haunted” house in Salem they both feel a spark of magic. A trip to his family’s cabin uncovers a heritage he didn’t know existed. If they want a future together, it means facing the consequences of awakening hidden Gypsy magic and a race against the clock to correct past wrongs.

Sneak peek between the pages of HIDDEN GYPSY MAGIC:

It was like stepping back in time. A carved mahogany newel post formed a dragon’s body complete with an intricately detailed dragon head, the banister curving upstairs was a tail of the dragon complete with etched smoothed scales. Brock closed the door behind them.
Gwen stood in the entryway turning in a complete circle. “Wow…just wow. This house is beautiful.” Walking to the staircase, she touched the individual balusters. Each one was intricately etched to look like a tree or had vines and leaves carved around it. She turned her gaze to the ceiling, then tugged on his shirt sleeve and pointed. “This house may not be on Salem’s haunted house list, but it’s filled with magic.”
The crown moldings were carved to depict a fairy garden in the main room off the entrance. “You know I didn’t notice any of this when I peered in the windows, only the spacious rooms and the feeling it gives off if that makes any sense.”
“It does. Let’s tour the rest of the house.” She reached for the light switch. “Is the electricity on?” Her question was answered as she flipped the switch. A warm glow lit up the room from a sparkling chandelier hanging from the center ceiling. Upon closer inspection, the chandelier was a bit dusty, but she stood in awe. “This place will cost a fortune.”
“May be out of my price range.” He took her hand and towed her up the stairs to the second story landing. In the top half of each wooden door was an oval carved to depict either a dragon, fairy, moon and star scene, or flowers. “If I didn’t know better, I’d say an old hippy decorated this house. But it dates back to the 1700s or so the title records claim. A few hundred years before the hippies.” He chuckled. “The craftsmanship in the woodworking seems authentic to the time period.”
Running her fingers lightly over the wall, she murmured. “The cream-colored walls need a little paint maybe a bit of plaster or drywall, in contrast with all the woodwork.” She shook her head in amazement. “I don’t see a nick or sign of wear. Do you?”
“No.” He walked along the hallway pushed the first door open and his jaw dropped. The crown molding was carved in a moon and star pattern matching the oval in the door. “Look at this.” He pointed to the ceiling molding.
The air whooshed out of her. She paused for a moment then sprinted to the next door with a dragon carved in the oval and pushed open the door. “Brock, you’re gonna want to see this.”
