What inspired An Angle’s Wylder Assignment.  I guess you’d say I decided to try something different. What a Wyld Ride.

Have you ever started a project only to discover it’s not going to be anything like you envisioned? Such is the constant situation of a writer who writes by the seat of her pants. The characters involved in the story take over and run with the plot, character arc, and anything else within their grasp.

Because I can’t plot my way out of a paper bag, and I’ve tried, I endure the escapades of my characters. Nine times out of ten, I end up with an imaginative and well-written book. Such is the case of, An Angel’s Wylder Assignment, part of The Wild Rose Press multi-author Wyld West series. My first attempt at a paranormal western, time travel, historical. There was a lot of research involved. How do they heat the house back in 1878?  What do they cook on? You should grab a copy and see if I pulled it off. LOL

Creating a fictional community with other authors is fun if a little daunting. So many individuals’ points of view and writing technics melded into one world. Sharing characters in the many storylines and making it all cohesive can be challenging but fun for all. Readers get to engage with characters they already know and love, then discover new characters added to the mix in a town or community familiar to them.

What is An Angel’s Wylder Assignment is all about.

Warrior Angel Killian Dugan’s annual trip to the family castle in Scotland is shattered by the arrival of Legion Commander North. Killian’s skills are needed for an urgent time travel assignment. A rogue demon has escaped back in time. He must discover the why and where and stop the demon before it can damage the past and change the future.

Killian’s girlfriend Chinoah Grace, a Native American shapeshifter is included in the mission which takes them to the wild west town of Wylder, Wyoming in the year 1878. She will have her hands full fitting in and making friends.

Nothing is as it seems.  They encounter visions, spirit quests, and a mysterious shaman.  On top of it all, blending in as a blacksmith is more physically difficult than he imagined. But not as challenging as keeping his hands off his undercover wife. Will they complete their assignment or run out of time?

Sneak peek between the pages of An Angel’s Wylder Assignment:

Inside the family castle in Scotland, Killian put aside his warrior angel duties and relaxed in front of a roaring fire with Chinoah, a Native American wolf shifter.

He idly swirled wine in a cut crystal glass, watching the flames glint off the burgundy liquid. It was his duty to take care of the property while his cousin, Tavish, and his family were on holiday before the highland’s harsh winter weather set in.

This year he’d be staying through the holidays, though Chinoah didn’t know it yet.

Who says a battle-ready warrior angel couldn’t handle both duty and family. Bollocks to that.  His best friend, Caden, did it. Well, kinda. Legion Commander Nathanial North balanced both just fine.

He slipped an arm around Chinoah. She cuddled into him as he pulled the patchwork quilt Jalen, Tavish’s wife, had made and given them to celebrate their hard-won relationship status of dating. One step at a time, Chinoah had requested.

The brass door knocker echoed through the castle announcing visitors.

With a raised brow, he peered at Chinoah. “Expecting guests, are we?”

“Not as far as I know.” She got to her feet and padded across the stone floor.

“Wait.” Grumbling, he pushed up from the cozy warm couch, slipped his socked feet back into his boots, and clomped toward her. “Best let me answer the door since we don’t know who’s waiting on the other side.”

She slowed her pace to allow him to catch up with her. “This castle is huge. By the time we get to the door, the visitors may be gone.” She giggled.

“Way to keep in shape.” Chuckling, he kissed her. “Apparently, my cousin made the original great hall into their family living space.”

“God help us if we’re in the bed-chamber when someone comes calling.” She snickered. “We’d have to sprint down the balcony hallway, across the split staircase, and through the great hall. By then, the visitors would have decided no one was home.”

“Which could have been Tavish’s plan.” He smiled at the thought. “Besides, I didn’t hear you complain last evening when you thundered through the castle for a couple of hours on four paws.”

“That was different. My wolf needed the exercise, and you didn’t want me to go outside.” Her lips formed a pout that he found irresistible.

“Didn’t want to spring you from a trap.” He turned his attention out the window where the snow swirled in the howling wind. “Besides, who in bloody hell would be calling at this time of night and in this weather?”

She raised an eyebrow and shrugged. “Only one group of individuals I know.”

“Oh, no. I’m on leave. They didn’t know where I was going. Besides, they wouldn’t expect me to be here.” The ancient wooden door groaned then made a squeeing sound when Killian yanked it open. “What in tarnation are you doing here?”

Dragon Knights Series Celebration and Sale

Give a warm welcome to Mary Morgan, author of Order of the Dragon Knights Series! Today we are celebrating Mary’s 10th Anniversary with The Wild Rose Press.

Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and let’s find out a little about Mary and her HOT Dragon Knights.

Hello, Tena! I’m delighted to be on your wonderful blog today to celebrate my 10-year anniversary with The Wild Rose Press! What an epic adventure it has been since I signed my first contract for Dragon Knight’s Sword (Order of the Dragon Knights, Book 1).

Let me share a few teasers why your readers should read the story and series…

10 Reasons You Should Read the Order of the Dragon Knights Series

  1. In each of the five books in the Order of the Dragon Knights, you journey back in time with my heroines to medieval Scotland and Ireland to find their true destinies. However, in one particular story, the hero will be whisked away to the future after he utters a plea to see his beloved’s face one more time.
  1. You are introduced to the Fenian Fae Warriors—guardians to the Dragon Knights. Though the knights would argue these warriors are a manipulating, interfering group of Fae and should attend to their own affairs.
  1. Discover the magic and strength each knight possesses. The Dragon Knights are part human and fae. With their individual powers, they can control the skies, land, water, fire, and shadows.
  1. In each Dragon Knights’ story, you’ll learn a wee bit about history from ~

Duncan MacKay shares his opinions about the Treaty of Falaise.

Stephen MacKay lives with the monks at Arbroath Abbey in Scotland.

Alastair MacKay sails the seas and trades with merchants on Dunneyneil Island on the northeastern coast of Ireland.

Angus MacKay travels the tournament circuit and arrives in Rouen, France to compete.

Adam MacFhearguis returns to Scotland after fighting in the Crusades.

  1. You’ll meet five strong, stubborn, and brave women who refuse to hide behind a medieval, and at times, domineering man. Imagine if you were thrust back to 12th century Scotland and found yourself confronted with a Dragon Knight. Would you swoon, fight back, or surrender? Perhaps all three? A mighty challenge for these women.
  1. Enjoy celebrations with great feasting, specifically one at Midsummer and another at Yule. There’ll be plenty of food and drink, especially good mead.
  1. Encounter special secondary characters, specifically all sorts of animals—from horses, dogs, falcons, owls, one red fox, and a feisty cat.
  1. You’ll meet the Great Dragon who dwells in Loch Ness. Her wisdom is vast, and the knights often seek her counsel.
  1. Witness what happens when the Dragon Knights unleash their inner dragons during the epic final battle against an evil druid.
  1. A curse or prophecy? You’ll find out the true meaning of this passage that resonates throughout the series. The wording varied a wee bit with each knight:

Across the sea, their destiny awaits.

A love will meet through time and space.

To right a wrong within this place.

Beneath the gate to test their fate.

I hope I’ve tempted you to journey within the pages of these time-travel and paranormal romance stories. For a limited time, Dragon Knight’s Sword is on sale for 99¢ from Amazon. Or collect them all!

Order of the Dragon Knights ~

They were an ancient order, descended from the great Tuatha Dé Danann, the Sidhe, or in simpler terms: the Fae. Half-human and half-fae, each knight blessed with mystical powers. Given to them were holy relics from the Fae and guardianship over their Dragons.

They were known as the Dragon Knights.

However, some believed the Order had too much power and they tried to possess it for themselves. They were evil and twisted, and their plan succeeded one fateful night. The brothers of the Clan MacKay—Dragon Knights, fought a battle. Blood spilled onto holy ground, bringing forth the wrath of the Fae. Their relics were taken, and the Order was banished—each name stricken from the hallowed halls of the Fae.

The Clan MacKay is no longer.

The Dragon Knights have scattered across the land.

Yet out of the darkness, they will each fight for redemption, and the women they love.

Friday the 13 & a #99cent sale

Friday, January 13th  makes a few people shiver in their boots. I’m not one of those, I long ago embraced Friday the thirteenth, and all things thirteen probably because it wasn’t done in my household. My mom was the queen of superstitious. She avoided walking under ladders, tossed salt over her shoulder when she spilled some, never broke a mirror to my recollection, and would walk or drive blocks out of her way to avoid allowing a black cat to cross her path.  Until that fateful day I brought home the cutest solid black kitten with the bluest eyes. Named him Panther after my high school mascot. He blessed us with his presence for twenty-two years. I miss that cat!

FYI – For those of you with inquiring minds, The irrational fear of the number thirteen has been given a scientific name: “triskaidekaphobia”; and on analogy to this the fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskevidekatriaphobia, from the Greek words Paraskeví (Παρασκευή, meaning “Friday”), and dekatreís (δεκατρείς, meaning “thirteen”). Yeah I more than you wanted to know. LOL

To celebrate, Friday the 13th An Angel’s Wylder Assignment is on sale for 99 cents. You can’t beat that with a witch’s hat or an angel’s halo. Talk about good luck! LOL

After you chase a black cat that cut in front of you under the ladder and avoid the shards of glass from a shattered mirror you dropped, leave your ordinary world behind. Change your luck and be swept away into a magical, romantic fantasy adventure with an angle and a shapeshifter you’ll never want to leave. You don’t even have to leave your house, download your copy today.

White Sands Gold by Mike Torreano

Give a warm welcome to Mike Torreano, author of White Sands Gold., set to release September 5, 2022. Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and let’s find out a little about Mike and his White Sands Gold.

Mike, what inspired this story?

A friend approached me a while back and said, ‘I’ve got the idea for your next book!’ He spun a tale of legendary gold bars supposedly stashed under a mountain north of Las Cruces, New Mexico. He’s been exploring that area for years and told me that how the bars got there is lost in the mists of time. Something akin to the Lost Dutchman mine in Arizona.
Skeptical, I looked up ‘white sands gold’ online and was amazed at all the information that turned up. Intrigued, I fashioned a tale of a religious relic hidden near the gold and a shadowy group of guardians who had protected the relic-and hence, the gold, too-for centuries.
White Sands Gold is a twisting tale of mystery and  betrayal, with a thread of romance and a troupe of fascinating characters who bring the legend to life in 1890 New Mexico Territory.
I see you brought someone else with you. Mike.
I did. Meat Ma Richards.  Though she could add a little information to the legend.
By all means let’s here what she has to say.

Interview with Ma Richards, White Sands Gold

New Mexico Territory, 1890

With the Las Cruces Courier

LCC: “Thank you for sitting with me for a few minutes, Ma. May I call you Ma?”

Ma sat in the rocking chair on her weathered front porch next to her visitor and looked up from her knitting. “Of course, dearie, everyone does, but for the life of me I can’t think why anyone would be interested in me? An old lady who doesn’t do much more than sit here and rock these days.”

LCC: “You’re selling yourself short, Ma. Everyone knows you have a way of keeping things under control around town. Have for years.”

Ma: “Me? Not sure what you mean. I just run this little boarding house here at the end of the street. Not much to look at, is it? Could use a coat of paint.”

LCC: “Yes, about that. We don’t see many people come and go here, how ever do you keep the place open?”

Ma: “Oh, I get by. The Good Lord provides.” She returned to her clacking needles.

LCC: The reporter scooched his chair closer and leaned forward. “There’s rumors that you lead a group of men called guardians. That they—”

Ma: “Oh, Pshaw. Do I look like I would be up to doing something like that?” A slight pause. “And what are these ‘guardians’ supposed to do?”

LCC: “Some think there’s a treasure trove of gold bars hidden under Victorio Peak north of here. Maybe thousands of them. Legend says the guardians were formed to protect some sort of religious relic hidden next to the gold. That they kill anyone who searches for it.”

Ma: “My, my. Sounds very scary. People do have some imaginations, don’t they?”

LCC: “The story goes that guardians have been doing this for centuries.”

Ma: “Centuries? Why, that’d make them quite old by now.” She smiled, then rested her hand on the reporter’s. “Excuse my manners, can I get you some tea?”

LCC: “Thank you, but do you have coffee?”

Ma: “Oh, coffee’s too strong for me. I find that it upsets my delicate constitution.” She flashed her big smile at the reporter.

LCC: “You must have boarders right now. I can hear kitchen sounds coming through the open front door.”

Ma: “Why, yes I just happen to. I give them free rein of the kitchen. Maybe I shouldn’t, though. Never can tell what they’ll get in to.” Just then, a young man pushed the front screen door open and stood near the reporter, staring down. He reached out a hand to Ma.  “It’s all right, Twill, no need to worry. I think that’s all this young person wanted to ask, anyway. Isn’t it?” She looked at the reporter with another big smile.

LCC: “Yes, I guess it is.”

Ma rose with help from Twill as the reporter started to  hurry away.

Not so fast, tell us a little more about White Sands Gold.

New Mexico Territory, 1890

In a hidden cavern, a fortune in gold bars sits alongside an ancient relic.

To find her treasure-hunting brother, Lottie Durham enlists the help of an easygoing lawman. When a mysterious  woman known only as Ma asks her to join the relic’s guardians, Lottie’s world spins. Why her, and should she take on this solemn obligation?

Twill, leader of the secretive guardians, has sworn a vow to protect the centuries-old religious relic. Regrets bedevil him and his dedication to his oath is repeatedly tested. If he breaks his promise, he’ll fail Ma, the one person he’s never wanted to let down.

Will a looming raid by a band of determined killers be the end of the guardians, the gold, and the relic?

How about a sneak peek between the pages?

Lottie lowered to the damp ground, which brought the deputy down as well. She fought the urge to look his way. She was alone in the desert wrapped in a semi-bear hug with a man she met yesterday. She eased a hand to her holster and picked the leather loop off her hammer. Probably didn’t need a gun to protect against someone who’d already saved her life, but…in case he tried something.

The deputy snugged his hat lower and shut his eyes.

“Hold on, cowboy. We can’t be sittin’ here just sleepin’. I mean…you oughta be talkin’ to me, reassurin’ me. How about it?”

He two-fingered his hat up a touch. “You seem to be able to take care of yourself fair, you should probably be reassurin’ me.” He glanced sideways at her, his face not more than a few inches away.

That same half-smile that had been so irritating somehow didn’t look so annoying anymore.
