Recipe From My City/State/Country- #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge

Welcome to #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge October 7, 2020, Recipe from my city/state/country. Oh this one is difficult for me! So many recipes so little time. Please have a seat, grab an iced tea or lemonade out of the cooler. Be sure and try a chocolate chip or peanut butter cookie.

Well, here’s what I came up with for the the recipe: Fantastic Molasses/Ginger Cookies.  I picked this recipe because it’s October and the holidays are right around the corner. AND I love it!  This cookie goes great with hot cocoa while sitting in front of a big picture window as giant storybook snowflakes drift from the sky and cover the ground in sparking white! Give it a try!

Fantastic Molasses/Ginger Cookies

(A friend’s recipe handed down from generation to generation)

Ingredients:

1 ½ cup brown sugar  ¾ shortening/butter (1/2 cup butter or ¼ cup shorting)

1 large egg

¾ cup molasses

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

3 cups sifted all purpose flour  – for high altitude above 4,000 ft., add ¼ cup flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

¼ teaspoon cloves (I don’t care for cloves so I replace with pumpkin pie spice)

2 tablespoons ginger

¼ teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons baking soda

Decorating sugar mixed with white sugar for decorating

Directions:

Cream sugar and butter. Add eff and beat until fluffy.  Add molasses and extract, mix well.  Combine dry ingredients and add slowly to creamed mixture.  It will be a thick dough.  Chill at least 30 minutes.  I chill mine for at least an hour.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

Form dough into one-inch balls and roll in the sugar.  Place the balls on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 10-13 minutes, depending on the size of your balls and your oven.  Cool tray on cooling rack for 10 minutes before placing in a container.

“It feels like all the air is being sucked out of this room.” His brother’s face turned ashen white as Beth’s ghostly form took shape in the center of the room.

Brock moved to the little group gathered and glanced at the grandfather clock standing in the hallway. Fifteen minutes until midnight. The witching hour on All Hallows Eve. A nervous chuckle rose up in his throat. How cliche. His brother would be a believer after this night.

He cleared his throat and wrapped an arm around Gwen’s waist. “Can we help you, Beth?” Misfit’s howling could be heard clearly from the upstairs bedroom.

“No, but I hope we can help you.” Ghost Beth glanced back at the painting and sadly shook her head. “The ghost of Judge John Hathorne stands outside ready to curse or worse all those involved in sullying his reputation. The house stands between all of you…protecting—” The ghost’s hand and arm made a sweeping motion toward their group, “— against his magic ability.”

A soft almost hysterical giggle burst from Gwen. “Doesn’t he know that by his actions this night, he has not only outed himself but proved the rumors and article are true?”

“I don’t believe he’s considered that point.” Beth’s ghostly grim face twitched into a half-smile. “He’s bent on revenge, but apparently had trouble passing through the veil this evening.” She pointed to the clock and then laid a finger on her lips.

Thanks for popping in. I really appreciate it. Next week, October 14th, 2020, can you believe it? Halloween month is here. Anyway, next week’s blogging challenge topic is Re-reading books: Why or why not? That will be fun but I have so many books I love and re-read, I don’t know where to start. Until then have fun, stay safe, and never let the world get you down!

Non-fiction Book Everyone Should Read & Why #L&SR’s Weekly Blog Challenge

Welcome to #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge September 30, 2020, Non-fiction book everyone should read & Why. Oh this on is difficult for me! I read for entertainment.  But I did read a couple that really were tough. Please have a seat, grab an iced tea or lemonade out of the cooler. Be sure and try a chocolate chip or peanut butter cookie.

Well, here’s what I came up with for the Non-fiction book everyone should read and why. If you don’t agree, I understand. Do you know of a non-fiction book that everyone should read? Why? Please list them in the comments!

American Sniper by Christopher Kyle with Scott McEwen and Jim Defelice –  The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History is an autobiography by United States Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, With 255 kills, 160 of them officially confirmed by the Pentagon, Kyle is the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history. The memoir has sold over 1.2 million copies across all formats.  Why read it?  Freedom is not free.

In 2013, Kyle was murdered by Eddie Ray Routh at the Rough Creek Lodge shooting range near Chalk Mountain, Texas. A former Marine with posttraumatic stress disorder, Routh was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

No Easy Day  by Matt Bissonnette under the pen name Mark Owen. –The Firsthand Account of the Mission that Killed Osama bin Laden (2012) is a military memoir by a former member of the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU) who participated in the mission that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden. The book was written by Matt Bissonnette under the pen name Mark Owen. It details Owen’s career with DEVGRU, including several combat missions in which he participated with the unit. At least half of the book focuses on Owen’s participation in the mission that killed bin Laden.

Owen and his publisher’s decision to release the book without first submitting it for United States Department of Defense (DoD) review generated controversy. The DoD claims that the book contains classified information, which the book’s publisher denies. In late August 2012, advance publicity increased the initial print run from 300,000 copies to 575,000.

Why read these books.  A reminder what it takes to protect our country and our freedom. I’m sure my choices will surprise some. I realize not everyone feels as I do, but being raised in a military town and married a soldier, I’ve seen the cost first hand as have the military families.

There you have it Non-fiction book everyone should read and why. I understand these books may not be for everyone, but everyone should understand the cost of freedom. My humble opinion and we are all entitled to our own.

Alas, I must return to my writing cave  where deadlines loom preparing promo on my upcoming release HIDDEN GYPSY MAGIC September 28, 2020 .  Stay tuned! Chocolate Raspberry Magic release date been extended until April 2021. And I’m working on a new WIP sixth book in A Demon’s Witch Series(very exciting and coming along nicely)  AND a new project is simmering  Wylder West Assignment. #L&SR’s Weekly Blogging Challenge – Autumn

Welcome to #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge September 23, 2020, Favorite things to do in the autumn. Oh this is easy peezy!  Please have a seat, grab an iced tea or lemonade out of the cooler. Be sure and try a chocolate chip or peanut butter cookie.

Wow so many to choose from, but I’ll list a few things at the top of my list.

Leaf Peeping.  In Colorado the Aspen leaves turn from green to golden, red, orange and several shades in between. Absolutely breathtaking! This picture was taken above Cripple Creek, Colorado.

Hiking Mountain Trails.  The foliage is so beautiful, the morning air is crisp and clean. I love the rustle of leaves as you walk through them. Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park above Estes Park, Colorado is a favorite hike, as are several trails in RMNP and Mueller State Park above Divide, Colorado.

Autumn Camping is the best! You get up to crisp even frosty mornings fabulous for hiking. The air smells so fresh. There are lots of wildlife to be seen. They don’t like the hot weather much better than I do.  Sitting in a camp chair with a mug of hot chocolate with little marshmallows watching the sunrise or set is one of life’s best little pleasures. The serenity is unsurpassed.

Celebrating Halloween! My favorite holiday.  We share pumpkin carving duties with our Eclectus parrot. Taco loves carving, chewing, eating and mucking around in the pumpkin.  Afterwards a bath is always required.  LOL

Well, there are a few of my favorite things to do in the autumn.  How about you? What are your favorite things do do in autumn? Please list them in the comments!

Alas, I must return to my writing cave  where deadlines loom preparing promo on my upcoming release HIDDEN GYPSY MAGIC September 28, 2020 .  Stay tuned! Discover the consequences of awakening hidden Gypsy magic!

The Salem Wildlife Sanctuary is Gwen Taylor’s life work.  Her Irish Gypsy heritage provides a hidden talent she uses to help the creatures under her care.  But even her magical skills can’t help new rescues in dire need of veterinary care.

The opportunity of signing on as the vet for Gwen’s sanctuary dropped into Brock Scutter’s lap after he expanded his practice to include wildlife. The personal attraction he and Gwen experience is undeniable the more their professional and personal lives collide.

Touring the only “non-haunted” house in Salem they both feel a spark of magic.  A trip to his family’s cabin uncovers a heritage he didn’t know existed.  If they want a future together, it means facing the consequences of awakening hidden Gypsy magic and a race against the clock to correct past wrongs.

#L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge

Welcome to #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge September 16, 2020, Book with the most words I had to look up!  Oh this is a tough one.  Please have a seat, grab an iced tea or lemonade out of the cooler. Be sure and try a chocolate chip or peanut butter cookie.

I have thought and thought until I think my brain short circuited. I have always been a voracious reader of all genres, except horror (gives me nightmares). During my childhood, my mother and I played a game with the dictionary in an effort to stump each other as to words meanings.  Over the years, we nearly wore out a huge Webster’s Dictionary (I still have it). Yes I concede I was a strange child. LOL So rarely do I come across words I don’t know.  A few science fiction early on gave me fits, but not any more. So this is going to be a short post.  Finally I decided it would have to be SHADOW OF NIGHT, by Deborah Harkness. It’s the second book in the Tree of Life series. set in a historical time period that I am unfamiliar with (Elizabethan England) so some words and phrases were strange to me. I loved the book and learned a lot about England in the 1590’s.  I wouldn’t like to have lived during that time. LOL

Alas, I must return to my writing cave  where deadlines loom preparing promo on my upcoming release HIDDEN GYPSY MAGIC September 28, 2020 .  Stay tuned!
