Interview A.M. Griffin, Author of When A Vamp Falls

Give a warm welcome to A.M. Griffin, author of When A Vamp Falls, Book One of War of Blood and Bonds.

Pull up a chair, grab a drink of your choice from the cooler, a Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter cookie from the plate, and let’s find out a little about  A.M. Griffin and When a Vamp Falls. Pssst…don’d forget to enter the Rafflecopter below.

What inspired this particular story? I was an attending author at Romancing The Capital in Ottowa (RTC) and I had a dream where the woman was trying to be a Good Samaritan and had her world turned upside down by a vampire. I’m not a plotter, but when I had the same dream the second night, I knew I had to get it onto paper. So during my free time (there’s not much of it during book conferences) I had to sift through my dream and pull out the parts that made sense and discard the crazy dream-y parts. It kinda took forever, cuz dreams are super weird. lol
What secret do you use to blast through writer’s block? Usually I get writers block when I’m trying to make my characters do something that they don’t want to. It takes me a while to realize this and to re-work the scene. After I do that I’m able to write and the writer’s block is gone!
Who is your favorite character of all of the books you’ve written and Why? Eva, from my sci-fi series Dangerously Mine. It was the first book that I’d ever written and to date I think the most bad-ass. She had wicked fight scenes. She’s this petite human with a martial arts background and an alien king thinks to keep her as a mistress and his warriors are giving her a hard time for wanting to fight and the other women on the planet are not being so friendly to her. I love her and her story so much.
What inspired you to write? My mother is a writer and I grew up watching her at her desk and typewriter. She always encouraged me to jot my feelings down or any short stories that I would come up with. Writing is in my blood.

Why do you write what you write?  Contemporary, paranormal,  suspense, etc. I love the paranormal genre. I also love sci-fi, regency romance, fantasy, urban fantasy and contemporary. I’m an avid reader and will usually engulf just about any good book that I can get my hands on. I’ve been a big vampire movie fan since I was little but never really thought about writing a vampire book until the mood struck me last year. When it struck with this fantastic story about a vampire who was in the midst of questioning his mortality and getting his affairs in order for his death and a woman who awakened a part of him that he thought was long gone, I knew I had to write it.SPEED ROUND FOR A LITTLE ADDED FUN:

A Sneak Peek Between the Pages of When A Vamp Falls.

The door opened.

Ramsey stared in awe at the beautiful woman in the doorway. Danya’s dark hair hung past her shoulders. Her bangs were severely cut above her eyebrows. Generous lashes framed vibrant green eyes. He’d thought that he’d imagined how pretty she was. But no, she was even prettier.

While he looked at her, drinking the sight of her in, she however, startled, screamed, then tried to slam the door in his face. A well-placed foot stopped her before she could.

“You. You.” She grunted as she pressed her body against the other side of the door.

When that didn’t work she kicked at his foot, trying to dislodge it. “No. No. No. You aren’t real.”

He glanced down at his body. “I’m very much real, sweetheart.”

Her eyes fluttered closed. “This is all a figment of my imagination. I am delusional. This is a symptom of anemia. One. Two. Three.” She took a deep breath, then opened her eyes again.

He gave her a wicked smile. “Still here.”

Danya screamed.

Ramsey cupped his hand over her mouth and wrapped an arm around her waist, drawing her body close to his. She smelled of vanilla and brown sugar. He leaned in to take another languidly whiff. Delectable.

She opened her eyes wide, and panic was behind them. He didn’t allow himself time to enjoy how her soft body was against his. He had to get her back inside before she had everyone on her floor spilling into the hallway to see what all the commotion was about.

Ramsey walked her back into her room and used his foot to kick the door closed behind them. He stopped only when her back was pressed against the wall. She shook with terror.

First attack her. Then scare her to death. Perfect.

A sharp pain hit his palm. He pulled away from her mouth to see the red bite mark. “You bit me.” Her bite didn’t do any damage, and the pain was gone already. His body worked quickly to make the repair. It was confusion that made him pull away. He hadn’t expected that.

Another pain, worse, like lightning, hit his groin. He doubled over and backed away.

Being kneed in the balls felt the same whether he were human or vampire. It hurt like hell. “Why did you do that?” he asked in disbelief.

The scared woman that she’d been just moments before was gone, replaced by spit and hellfire. She balled her fists and took a step forward to kick him in his chin. He’d let her beauty distract him but recovered quickly and caught her bare foot mid-air and pushed it, slamming her back against the wall. Before she could react, he was against her body again and in her face.

“Why. Are. You. Trying. To. Hurt. Me?” His nose was less than an inch from hers.

Her stare turned icy. “Because. You’re. Trying. To. Hurt. Me.” She punched his sides then winced. “Ouch. What the hell are you made of? Steel?”

“Dammit. Stop that.” He pinned her hands above her head.

She wiggled in vain, doing nothing but making his body react to hers. He lifted her arms higher, raising her to her tiptoes. She tried to knee him again, but he blocked her by maneuvering his hip and sliding his leg between hers.

He tried to ignore her warm heat spreading over his thigh. “I’m not here to hurt you.”

She stopped struggling long enough to glare at him. “Really? What do you call this or what you did last night?”

He let out a curse. “If I let you go do you promise not to attack me again?”

“Sure.”

He didn’t believe her. “I only came to make sure that you had recovered from last night. I didn’t mean to take as much blood as I did.”

“Everyone thinks that I’m crazy because of you.”

“And for that I apologize.” She relaxed a little. “So can I let you go now?” He really wanted to keep her where she was, pinned against him, and take her. And if he didn’t create space between them that’s exactly what he would’ve done.

She gave a short nod.

He let go of her hands and stepped away and kept going until he was against the wall, giving them both space. He needed it so that his cock would go down, and she needed it so that she wouldn’t feel threatened anymore. He also wanted to put room between his balls and her knees.

“You bit me,” she said again. “Why? I was just trying to help you.”

“And you did, by giving me your blood.”

She held up a finger. “Let’s make things clear. I didn’t give you anything. You took it.”

Yeah, that sounded about right. Hearing her say it made him feel even worse. “If I had asked?”

“The answered would’ve been no.”

“It was a life or death situation. Without you I wouldn’t be standing here now.”

She snorted. “And that’s a good thing?”

“That I’m alive? I should think so.”

“Alive and coming back to finish what you started?”

He raised a questioning eyebrow.

She pointed to her neck. “To kill me.”

“I hardly have intentions to kill you.”

She crossed her arms and leaned against the wall. She looked causal, even relaxed, but

her muscles were tight. She was getting ready for a fight.

“Thank you for saving me.”

“I could’ve died. You left me with a hemoglobin of 4.4!” Then she pulled her eyebrows together in thought. “What is it supposed to be normally?” she mumbled.

“Humans should have a hemoglobin of—”

“I’m not asking you, mister,” she snapped.

“Ramsey Moreau.”

“Huh?”

“That’s my name.” She clenched her jaws. He let out a light chuckle. “Nice to meet you,

Danya Evans.”

She took a step to the side, sliding further away from him. “How do you know my name?”

He winked, giving her a devious smile. “I heard your conversations with the officers last night.”

“Creep much?”

“Sometimes.”

“And I suppose that you couldn’t have found it in your heart to corroborate my story to save me from the humiliation of being labeled crazy?”

“Ah, no.” She cursed under her breath and kicked at the carpet. “But if you would let me,

I’d like to make it up to you.”

She turned her head. “And how could you do that? You can’t give me my blood back.

The transfusions took care of that.”

“I want to take you out to eat.” That hadn’t been his plan, but suddenly he didn’t want to leave her. Yet.

Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance Wins Best Romance 2017 C/P&E Readers Poll

Click on cover to read more or buy.

I was so excited to finally have Stefan and Brandy’s story see the light of day. A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance. Let me explain. A few years ago I roughed out Stefan’s story, a bare bones kinda of thing.  I was working 12 hour days at a day job, yet still found time to put keyboard to computer. Anyway, I finished the rough draft and read through it. Something was missing.

I closed the file and opened a new one. Bruce the Demon Overlord of the Western Hemisphere burst onto the scene with his petite witch, Angie, and insisted that their story must be told first or my timeline would be messed up. Yeah, my characters tend to be a bit bossy.  So I humored him, drafted his story and he was right.  A Demon’s Witch was born, published in 2015.  Three other novels would be written and published before I returned to the Demon’s Witch Series.

Finally I thought Stefan’s time had come. But now, readers and even a reviewer or two assumed or asked whether Tristian’s Story would be next. I was dumbfounded. He was an assassin, for heaven’s sake. But Tristian had a compelling story to tell and I suspect he may have woven a spell to ensnare my readers. Anyway, A Warlock’s Secrets came to fruition. I remember after turning the manuscript into my editor, I sat back in my chair and said out loud in my empty office “Is there anyone else that thinks they have a story to tell before Stefan and Brandy’s?” My husband stuck his head in the door, looked around, chuckled and said “All clear.”

I opened A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance file and again said, “Stefan it’s your turn.” He scoffed at me. But I charged forward. He’d grown and changed from the Vampire Council’s Assassin in the two previous books, to a midnight DJ for a small radio station in Whitefish, Montana where he met Brandy, a park ranger and a creature he never knew existed.  The rest is history.  Today I present A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance, a long time coming but I think Stefan and Brandy would agree, well worth the wait. Now A VAMPIRE’S UNLIKELY ALLIANCE won Critters/Predators&Editors Readers Poll for Best Romance 2017! I may never stop Happy Dancing!

A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance – Release Day

Happy holidays to all!  Today is the book birthday of A VAMPIRE’S UNLIKELY ALLIANCE, my third book in Demon’s Witch Series. I’m so excited! Have a seat and grab an insulated mug. I’ve got hot chocolate, hot cider and coffee. Choose your pot, they’re labeled. Pick your choice of a Snicker-doodle, Chocolate Chip or Peanut butter cookie from the plate. Yep, I baked them myself. Let me tell you about A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance. Not what you’ve come to expect from a vampire tale!  Thanks for joining us!

Stefan is a Native American vampire, former assassin for the Vampire Council. In a twist of fate, he now DJ’s the midnight shift for a small radio station in Whitefish, Montana, on the edge of Glacier National Park where his secret is safe until…

Born in Ireland, Brandy now works as a park ranger and trail guide in the park. During a full moon, Stefan and Brandy’s paths cross in a near physical collision on a trail. Their attraction is immediate and undeniable, almost as if fate demanded it.

Their union was foretold long ago in Irish folk tales where vampires and gryphons, warlocks and demons, witches and faeries must work together for the good of man and magic kind. Is a trip to Ireland the key to unravelling secrets and returning the magic? And even more importantly, will their love survive the trip?

A Sneak Peek Between the Pages of A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance:

Brandy slept in Stefan’s arms while he watched the lace curtains flutter as the ocean breeze, heavy with brine, wafted through the window, open just a crack. A white mist swirled into the quiet room through the opening. It grew thicker and began to take shape settling into the antique rocking chair in the far corner of their cozy room. A man with long flowing hair the color of straw, dressed in jeans and a shimmering multicolored sweater, now sat in the rocking chair, left boot propped over on his right knee, watching Stefan with genuine interest.

Stefan’s body stiffened, his fangs pierced his gums as he shifted Brandy to a more secure position, though he sensed no threat. Too many stories around the fire?

Undisturbed, the apparition’s lips twitched. “So you’re the súmair fala that stole our Brandy’s heart. An interesting turn of events this is.” He mused nodding his head toward the window and pointing his finger toward Stefan, then to the outside. As quickly as he’d appeared, he was gone, leaving only a light mist floating across the floor.

Blinking his eyes, Stefan slowly looked around the room. What the hell was that? I wasn’t asleep so it couldn’t be a dream. Stealthily, he slid out of bed without disturbing Brandy. He yanked on jeans, pulled an ivory cable knit sweater over his head, and grabbed his boots as he padded silently down the stairs out of the house. The storm had passed, leaving a light dusting of snow covering the ground. Behind the light mist, a nearly full moon hung among the twinkling stars across the frosty dark sky. For a moment, he stilled listening as the waves crashed against the shore off in the distance.

Glancing uneasily around the area in front of the house and toward steep cliffs shrouded in a settling mist, he saw nothing. Following the trail leading to the cliffs and ultimately down to the beach, he sprinted across the rocky terrain. He stopped once and glanced over his shoulder to make sure he’d closed the front door. Turning back around, Stefan skidded to a halt, damn near crashing into what he considered a figment of his imagination. “Who are you?” Stefan demanded.

A little while later Stefan returned to the house, silent climbed the stairs and slid into bed. Jostling Brandy he said.” I believe I’ve just had a conversation with an apparition claiming to be King of the Warrior Faeries.”

“You’ve seen and talked with Tiarnan, King of Warrior Faeries? When? How?” Brandy demanded.

Ann Gimpel Author of Tarnished Legacy

Give a warm welcome to Ann Gimpel Author of Tarnished Legacy, Book 2 of the Soul Dance Series.

Let’s find out about Ann Gimpel’s unabridged audiobook, Tarnished Legacy, Soul Dance-Book 2.

My Review:

Tarnished Beginnings was included in the Tarnished Legacy AudioBook, so really you get two books in one.

In 1740, Egypt is a haven for magic-wielders of all kinds. Vampires hold court, staying one step ahead of the priests who want them dead. Gypsy caravans roam the Nile, plying their wares. Tairin Jabari was born in a caravan and has always believed she’s Romani. Why wouldn’t she? Her mother and father never suggested otherwise. But there is something different about her. When her secret is discovered, her mother’s punishment is death and Tairin is on the run.

In Tarnished Legacy,

Fast forward 200 years and we find Tairin traveling with the Romani again, but keeping her Shifter side a secret. She, with a sympathetic Mage are stirring up as much trouble as possible in the Nazi strongholds. Then the Vampires are discovered, forcing the Romani and Shifters to work together to eradicate the nest of Vampires.

Since I don’t do spoilers, I’ll just say these stories are action packed, and kept me turning pages until the very end. Speaking of endings it warmed the cockles of my heart. There is violence and sizzling sex so +18. I highly recommend Tarnished Legacy audiobook. I can’t wait to get my ears on Soul Dance Book 3, Tarnished Prophecy. Yep,it’s on my Christmas list!

The narrator, Gregory Salinas breathes life into Ann’s captivating characters and vivid descriptions. Bravo!

Five stars for the Author, Ann Gimpel and Narrator, Gregoy Salinas!

Tarnished Beginnings
Egypt is a haven for magic-wielders of all kinds.
The Rom have harsh rules. When Tairin’s first shift catches her unaware at 13, her father disappears, and the elders move with deadly speed to punish her mother for mating outside the blood.
Hurt, lost, confused, and fearing for her own life, Tairin runs away, leaving her mother’s smoking funeral pyre behind. With her survival on the line every single day, she and her wolf face hard choices.
Tarnished Legacy
Half Romani, Tairin’s no stranger to hiding her mixed blood from gypsy caravans. What she can’t hide is her perpetual youth, courtesy of her shifter heritage. She’s overstayed her welcome where she is, but Germany is at war, and travel has become impossible for everyone targeted by the Reich.
Elliott’s clairvoyance is strong. Seer for all the caravans in Germany, he catches Tairin eavesdropping outside their leader’s wagon. He should turn her in, but he can’t bring himself to do that. Instead, he interrogates her. Her magic is different, but he can’t figure out quite what she is.
Any association between Romani and shifters is forbidden. Tairin should leave right now, tonight – before he discovers what she is and destroys her.

About the Author:
Ann Gimpel is a mountaineer at heart. Recently retired from a long career as a psychologist, she remembers many hours at her desk where her body may have been stuck inside four walls, but her soul was planning yet one more trip to the backcountry. Around the turn of the last century (that would be 2000, not 1900!), she managed to finagle moving to the Eastern Sierra, a mecca for those in love with the mountains. It was during long backcountry treks that Ann’s writing evolved. Unlike some who see the backcountry as an excuse to drag friends and relatives along, Ann prefers solitude. Stories always ran around in her head on those journeys, sometimes as a hedge against abject terror when challenging conditions made her fear for her life, sometimes for company. Eventually, she returned from a trip and sat down at the computer. Three months later, a five hundred page novel emerged. Oh, it wasn’t very good, but it was a beginning. And, she learned a lot between writing that novel and its sequel.
Around that time, a friend of hers suggested she try her hand at short stories. It didn’t take long before that first story found its way into print and they’ve been accepted pretty regularly since then. One of Ann’s passions has always been ecology, so her tales often have a green twist.
In addition to writing, Ann enjoys wilderness photography. She lugs pounds of camera equipment in her backpack to distant locales every year. A standing joke is that over ten percent of her pack weight is camera gear which means someone else has to carry the food! That someone is her husband. They’ve shared a life together for a very long time. Children, grandchildren and three wolf hybrids round out their family.
