Topics that Make Me Stop Reading a Book
Welcome to #L&SR’s Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge September 2, 2020, Topics that make me stop reading a book! Well now that’s interesting. Please have a seat, grab an iced tea or lemonade out of the cooler. Be sure and try a chocolate chip or peanut butter cookie.
FIrst thing that comes to mind was several years ago, but remains in my mind for several reasons. The book is Elfstone of Shannara by Terry Brooks. I’d read everything from Terry Brooks, not necessarily in order (one of my quirks). It was approximately two in the morning, yep, one of those book you can’t put down until… I got to the part where he killed of this adorable fuzzy creature. I was so angry, I threw the book across the room, it hit the wall with a bang, and my husband jumped out of the bed and yelled “What’s going on?” I relayed the events preceding the book’s flight across the room. His words I won’t repeat here, but he was less than impressed. But he has never let me forget that. I didn’t pick up the book for a week and have never read another Terry Brooks. So if the author kills off animals, I’ll never read or finish the book.
Next would be deceit and cheating in a romance book. I don’t like those elements in life and certainly not in a book I read for entertainment.
Last – Cliffhangers – If I read a book no matter how good it is if it ends on a cliffhanger, odds are that I won’t pick up a book from that author again. There have been a few exceptions (warned of a cliffhanger and decided to read it anyway) these are few and far between.
So there you have it topics that make me stop reading a book. How about you? What topic makes you stop reading a book?

A sneak peek at Hidden Gypsy Magic:
Discover the consequences of awakening hidden Gypsy magic!
The Salem Wildlife Sanctuary is Gwen Taylor’s life work. Her Irish Gypsy heritage provides a hidden talent she uses to help the creatures under her care. But even her magical skills can’t help new rescues in dire need of veterinary care.
The opportunity of signing on as the vet for Gwen’s sanctuary dropped into Brock Scutter’s lap after he expanded his practice to include wildlife. The personal attraction he and Gwen experience is undeniable the more their professional and personal lives collide.
Touring the only “non-haunted” house in Salem they both feel a spark of magic. A trip to his family’s cabin uncovers a heritage he didn’t know existed. If they want a future together, it means facing the consequences of awakening hidden Gypsy magic and a race against the clock to correct past wrongs.

I don’t read books about animals being killed either. You’re not alone there.
So happy you pooped in Lydia. I’m finding out that a lot of people are like us. Good to know, don’t you think! Stay safe!
Oh, I don’t like animals being killed either!
So glad you stopped by Jennifer. I think we are like a lot of people in that believe. LOL
Yep! I don’t like when they kill off the animals! Great post, Tena.
Thanks so much for stopping by Mary. We’re of one mind on that topic!
If any death has a purpose and meaning it serves a purpose. To kill off warm and fuzzy without it is a literary crime. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/09/wc-090220.html
Exactly Patrick. Thanks for stopping by! Stay Safe!
Cliffhangers are annoying! I need some sort of resolution to satisfy me until the next book comes out.
I couldn’t agree more Sydney. Thanks for stopping by!
I loved the Shannara series, well, any of Terry Brooks’ books. I don’t remember the fuzzy creature. I sometimes kill off things that might be considered fuzzy creatures. 🙂 Did you ever read the Deryni books by Katerine Kurtz. You might like them. They are high fantasy.
No I haven’t read the Deryni books. I’ll have to check them out. I looe Fantasy! Thanks for the suggestion and for stopping by! Stay safe!
Totally agree! I would never read any book that condones killing any animal. I absolutely hate cliffhangers and definitely hate deceitful people and/or cheaters so I agree with all your points.
Seems a lot of us are of like mind. Thank you so much for dropping in.
Yeah, cheating in a book drives me nuts, too. I’m glad I’m not the only one who has shut a book only to never look again because of the critter being offed. Good post!
